a difficult decision.....

some one close need to contact them. most of the time they are sold to a yard they have a contract with. the yard pays them XXX for every car. now the man cold buy it back for the company he would have first dibs on the salvage. but if your talking about the persons that ran into him down here that is a liability and they don'w Owen your car you get paid for the damages. and the car is yours

I will start looking at Copart

Even with the bent frame, and possible cowl damage, the car is still repairable. These cars are rare enough today that it would be worthwhile to fix it, and do a complete rehab if necessary. Usually, when they are as old as the ambulance is, the yards only pay the insurance company scrap value for the steel content. It would be a shame to see this one meet its demise in a blast furnace.

I hope someone can contact him and contact his insurance ASAP. I agree that there was much to save on that ambulance (personal connections aside). I, too, would hate to see it meet its demise just because the cost to repair it would be greater than its insured value.

If nothing else, get that darn carrier support bearing. :stars:

Hagerty lets you buy back

Hagerty Insurance (who I have my extra insurance from) allows the owner buy back. The also have an "agreed upon value" in the event of a total loss. I highly recommend them!

I too have hagerty on my toys with stated value which sometimes they ask me if I want to up it being market has increased on certain cars. I did not know owner had option to buy back but I like that.

Darren spoke with Dave today, and the information about the ambulance is posted in the "freak accident" thread.

As for Dana's hearse, Darren says Dave told him it is not his intention to use the hearse as a "parts car" for repair of the ambulance, but rather that he is legitimately interested in keeping/preserving both cars in good shape. :thumb:

Hello everyone...

I am 50% slower in responding to the threads the last couple days as I got a metal sliver in my right index finger on Tuesday and by Thursdays I had a infection big time. The finger is swollen and I can feel my heart beat in the tip of the finger.

Since I am a two finger typer, that really slows me down !

(not really, I can use a few different fingers but not all 10 !)

I spoke with Dave today to follow up and he is still PISSED with the whole situation. He still has breathing issues with his lungs, sore ribs and the all the BS with the insurance company.

He has told me the ambulance repair would be higher than the valve of the car so they totaled it, paying him what he paid for the car.

He is trying to buy the car back from them but still in negotiations with them on that.

He is also trying to buy Dana's '76 hearse he told me.
He said he has wanted that car since seeing it in Kingston in 2000 at the PCS meet.

I guess now that he has the money, he is looking for something else.

I will follow up with him this week-end and see what he has found out about buying back the ambulance and if he does get it, what his plan is with it.

Too bad it all had to happen, but life goes on.

Have a groovy week-end and update you all next week,
Darren

I agree with you on that Bill !!
I have 7 Collector vehicles with Hagerty..including the 72 Superior I just added......they are VERY reasonable ....I also would recommend them !!:my2cents:

I also have Hagerty and I love them!! Like you said very reasoable rates. Never had to deal with a major wreck yet (hopfully will not ever) but have turned in some rock chips in the windshield and had no issues. Plus for just a very minimal fee you get so many more benifits!
I hope this ambulance will be purchased back, unfortunatly even for parts. Im sure it has about everything someone is looking for.

You all make my head spin sometimes, trying to discuss the same issue in two different threads. We get easily off-track. :stars:

Might I suggest we discuss the wrecked ambulance in the thread about the ambulance, and use this thread to discuss Dana's hearse?

Helping me be un-confused is everybody's job! Thanks.

I agree. I thought i was on that thread because of the last few posts.

...by the way, getting Miss Lydia out of the barn tomorrow evening if it is a nice enough out and Jill and I are taking her to the Drive-in in Jamestown!! ("Avengers" and "John Carter")
can't make a proper decision without spending the time to realize WHY I have her in the first place!! (the CAR, not Jill!!! hehehee!!)

Dana.

Tom,
Yes, when I make a "final" decision I will certainly post it, trust me I have gone back and forth on this ONLY because the money would REALLY be a big help these days AND it appears she would be given a good and caring home with a PCS member, otherwise there would no question that I would never sell. I know my coach is not perfect, but I see a lot of potential and I really enjoy her! also, since I have had her I have planned on using her when my parents pass away to drive them their "final mile", something I am sure many of you have or will yourselves!! and even thought I am crazy about my '76 Buick hearses I just don't see them being as comarable to Miss Lydia as far as a classy and dignified last ride for my parents.

Darren,
I will try to post pictures later if I can!! I don't have any real good ones but will try a few that I think look nice!

Dana.
