70 Superior Before clean-up....

Make sure you scrub her good espeacialy underneath !!!! She is covered in road salt.. That is what killed most of our Northern cars. That crap will rust that car out so fast.. I have seen cars up here only 7 years old rotted out like they were dipped in acid. Spray that frame and floor out as good as you can. Great looking car tho.. I would love to have one like that .

Paul,

Ohh I know about northern cars...I used to live in Buffalo/Niagara Falls area !!!
The 70 spent all her life in Naturita Co,and I was told by the fire chief(owner) that Colorado is one of the few states that does NOT use salt and has not since the early 80's.....only sand is used......she even has "sanders" installed"I will post pics soon.....
As for the Sierra part of the trip,California does NOT allow salt anymore either since 1996...they tried
Magnesium Chloride (MgCl2)
Magnesium chloride is considered by some to the best overall ice melting compound. It is safe to use around plant life and it is less corrosive than other ice melting compounds. Magnesium chloride is a hygroscopic compound meaning it absorbs moisture. This allows the magnesium chloride to dissolve into a brine solution very quickly hence melting ice and snow very quickly. Relatively harmless to plant life, magnesium chloride is an environmentally friendly alternative for melting ice and snow. Magnesium chloride can effectively melt ice and snow in temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius (5F).
This however also stopped being used since Jan 2012..a BILL that was introduced by the "Green" people and won its way thru the legislature and became law.......good thing I guess.....so now sand is the only thing used ...
So I guess I am lucky......the rig is still filthy...but at least its not salt brine...LOL.....

Nice car Jim! I have a 1970 51" superior.(see pics in my album) Half the fun is in the cleaning and repairing.Best of luck with your new rig.

Nice rig Denny....LOVE the "Niagara" name on it.....

Did you add any lights or the Q ??..or did she come that way ??

Wow! Your guy actually did pull it through the mountains with a "van"! He has far bigger b@#ls than I do! I would never attempt that. I see that the R/F trailer tire let go at the end of the trip! That had to be one squirrely ride through the mountains!

Actualy he had 2 blow outs......one on each side of the trailer..the one you see was just a few miles from the house.....

But he said he regularly travels mountain areas,so its not new to him....

I too saw the flat tire, very scary rig as Kurt mentioned. Nice car, glad you made it back with it. Partial to a 70 caddy myself.

Danny,
It was hauled by Martin Rousseu..he is quite familier with ProCars and has hauled a number of hearses for members matter of fact he is picking up a 39 Packard for someone........all on that tow set-up.....

:applause:some have all the luck. jealusy is a sin and im a sinner. i got "sorry, already sold". james, 3 beacons q2 on top, 2 cp25's and interceptor and im movin to califormia! move your trailer and ill park the motorhome there till we get her done! everybody paints these cars red and white but how about solid red!! sex on wheels for me. couldnt have happened to a nicer fella. now lets see which one is nicer. the one mr. renstrom is working on for the big kahunna or yours. doesnt really matter as im sure both will be outstnding!!! remember, im only a check i mean phone call away!

Kyle, did you call on this car ?

The previous owner said he had a few calls on her.....

Your welcome to come by,I have 5 acres and and a full RV hook-up !!
I could use some help ,everyone around here is CLUELESS when it comes to ProCars.....it gets very frustrating sometimes.......:(

I am sure Mr Renstroms' will be awesome.....!!!

I am going to keep her colors the same (sorry)....but I would like to get a more brighter, redder RED then what she has now.....I think its AMERICAN-LAFRANCE RED according to the plate.....

She has underhood speakers.....I guess I will leave those, but probably going to mount a mecanical on her at some point.....
and remount the Mocom radio/speaker that she came with......

Not to sure about the "sanders" behind the rear tires...they hang kind of low....but ther are original to the car...so I am undecided right now...

and thats about it.....

Call when your about an hour a away..and I will see you then !!

Thats about it.....

James, I had a 1967 Miller Meteor Classic 48, it was also American LaFrance Red & White, like your Superior. When I had it painted, they painted it Cobalt Red & White and the ambulance got many compliments on the color. I am sorry that I don't have a picture I can post. Perhaps somebody has a picture of it from the 2008 Int'l Meet in New Jersey and maybe they would be so kind as to post it, so you could see it for yourself.

they have them installed so that they dump to the rear?? must be a back up thing. as they would do you no good to use them going forward. they would be for start up not for driving. try them out with a little cat litter. but trust me anything that turns to brine will eat up your car. the liquid stuff is death to aluminum and roads. what we use around here are chips. the sharp edges give you a good bite.

Ed,
That is a passenger side view.....they dump to the front of the tire......so as you move forward you get traction.....actually what they have in the "hopper" looks like a cross between cat litter and coarse sand.....
I know one thin....I dont need that option around here....:)

I would love to see it Bill.....like you said maybe someone can post a photo..:)
I do like the color of Bo Pounds's 70 that was at Daytona...very sharp rig and color...
The American LaFrance red is just a bit to dark for me....actually for my wife..this is going to be "her" ProCar......She refuses to drive the 72 Superior...says its like a tank....but she likes the size and design of the 70 and says she will drive it....Hmmm will see...lol......

If you google "2008 pcs meet" there is a picture courtesy the Northland PCS picture collection. It unfortunately did not attach well.

Here is a good red..... The problem with looking at colors on a monitor, is that they don't reproduced well. The picture on the left is the same paint as on the right, but they both look different, depending on the angle of the camera and the lighting. The only way to know if you will like the color is to view it in natural daylight, on a large surface.

Here's the photo of the ambulance Bill Marcy owned.

There are a lot of nice "reds" out there. My M-M is "Flamengo Red", a Cadillac color that has just a hint of blue in it. That's the original color and I like it very much. But before you throw it out, try cleaning and buffing that American LaFrance red - I like that color when it's in good shape and shiny. You may just find you like it...
