'64 Superior photos

Doug, THANKS VERY MUCH for the photos. My 63 is missing that heater knob for the rear heat. I now know what it looks like, and can try to find a replacement.

The 3 flat round faced items are the patient condition lights... Red.. step on it.. Amber... everything OK... Green... Take your time :stars:
The rest of the switches operate different items on the vehicle, such as switching between the horn and the siren, roof light, interior lights, etc. You will need a good automotive electrician to figure out exactly what controls what. Just don't let someone who has no experience in there and start cutting wires, etc. I have seen more damage done by inexperienced "mechanics" than any other type of damage. Better to leave them alone until you can find the person that has the knowledge and patience to fix it right than to have someone butcher it... I am available on an hourly rate plus travel time and expenses...

The siren box "screen" reads as follows. It's backlit.

Siren Siren Roof Rear Dome
Brake Horn Light Heater Light

one of the side switches reads "panel lights"

The photos aren't good, but the backlit screen is in very good condition.

don't think that heater knob is the right one either. it should be like the AC knob to the right.
a lot of switches on that panel. it's any one's guess what they are all for. the corner covers could be for beacons or lights. but if demountable they were most likely beacons. the only way to tell is if the wires hook up to a flasher or not. if one can find a solenoid or the wires under the hood that would tell what kind of siren it had. the 28 will take a #4 wire at least. the back light will turn on the light in the panel box so you can see the labels. but who know if they wired it like the panel says. I'm sure the factory boys did but that's been some time ago.

I saw where you are wanting a heater knob like mine. Did you decide that it is correct? I can go over and see if it looks like it has been scabbed from something else. I think, maybe, that it pulls up, not turn. Now I am curious as well, so I will go double check and get back with you. Plus I'll keep my eyes open for you.

i just checked the heater knob and it looks original. It pulls up - doesn't turn. I suppose it could be a replacement because it isn't black. Any ideas on if it is correct?

Steve Loftin: Is that what the short strips of SS or other metal are on the front of the roof for demountable (bullet) lights? If so, we learn something new everyday from the honorable senior PCS'ers! MM

Yes; they were used to cover the double holes (each side) used for the bullet lights when the car was being used fro a hearse.

My 63 SS has the plate in the back, but has a plug where the switch goes. Guess the dead dont care if it cold. I pulled a short stemmed rear view mirror out of a 63 SS combo recently. Never seen a short stem before.

been tryin to find the post that shows the pics of the 64 combo rear electrical switches. Its about looking for the knob. I need the pic that shows how the wires are hooked up to the dome light switch

I posted this under "original documents found"....i'm not sure what I'm looking at, but does this help?

Dome lights operate on a grounding principle. Open the door, and the door switch completes the ground to the light. Flick the switch in the console, and the switch grounds, illuminating the light. Basic automotive electrical wiring, no magic circuits involved here....

The rear lights are grounded to the car, and controlled by the 2 switches. The switch is a 2 position switch, with 3 electrical connections. Got the bay lights working, as the fuse clip was rusted. The bay lights come on when the back door is opened. Seems that the switches only disable the lights, not able to turn them on with the back door closed.
