It will be interesting to see if it reaches reserve. 'Appears' to be a phantom bidder with only 2 transactions under his belt bidding it up against - only one buyer as of today. Cars were not in CA. originally. Dealer tapped the collection with a few sales from the bunch. I'd wager the reserve is well into six figures unless he finally came down. Spoke to him about 2.5 months ago. Love both coaches. Hey Dan!, perfect car for your collection :)

I, like many others are watching this pair with interest. I do believe even a REAL buyer would go a bit over 6 figures for a closely matched pair. The seller knows what he has and obviously left no room for others to think they could be bought cheap to resell high. Assuming a real sale is realized it merely sets the bar higher for purchases of other nice 50's vintage cars. Hopefully they will find a good home and be used for their intended purposes again :blahblah:

All I can say is that is one gorgeous pair of professional cars! Truth is, I agree that these cars might bring more than $100K. I doubt if you could replace them.

Matched Set

Yes, I was told they were from a large collection of primarily Cadillac's from a huge warehouse in WY. From what I protracted, the seller here tapped into the bundle and brokered the first few. I'm sure he has bought a couple by now. My concerns were how much filler was on each Coach and if (high button shoes) Lacquer was used, was it cracking as it would have to be stripped and re-painted. Since they had been 'sitting' a very long time, once you pay for enclosed transport for 2 six-thousand pound behemoths, and then jump into rejuvenating the motors, dry rot tires?, brakes, gas tanks, shocks, carburetors, possible moldy interiors, cracked leather and fallen headliners, you quickly become buried. Frame rust is always an issue to deal with as well, as you all know, Service Cars see all sorts of weather- rain, sleet and snow. A little risky to buy w/o a prof. inspection. I'm sure they will sell well over 100g cause: where else are you going to find a 'matched set'?? Despite two different coach builders, very rare. I'll join you in watching this one play out!!

Kerry, if they are as bad as that, I change my mind. So, kindly disregard my last statements!

one never knows with a e-bay auction what is there. seller in calf, cars in wy? one more reason to stay away. but like the bunch in Neb there are a never ending list of people with money to toss. I like the building though but kind of a high roof for just cars. make a good grain storage though.

Mission Accomplished

Well John...'mission accomplished' on the possible phantom(?) bidder- it would appear he has positioned two buyers now into duking it out at the 100k level. I honestly can't remember but, (old person) memory has it the seller started at $115-120k+ on his price so, it probably won't hit reserve with only 6 hours left. But, on e-Slay- you never know.
The building: might work in South Dakota but, in FL. getting the zoning & those high ceilings would kill you on the electric bill (LOL). Even in WY. that puppy had to cost a fortune to build.

they are a lot cheaper then you might think. the company that does them will do about any size you want. my little bro has one for his home garage in Douglas. paid about $16,000 for his 35x35. no taxes they heat it with natural gas. you need to move. but be honest with me who would pay 100,000 bucks for a pair of cars they have never seen??? that to a buyer 2000 miles away from were the cars are located. if they get sold it will be to a overseas buyer.

Steel Building: Photos I saw of the whole collection, the building looked more like 37x150' (it was huge by 'garage' standards)...so now you're up to $37000 + crane rent / labor and a wind load of only 90mph. We get beat up here by ridiculous hurricane code requirements. I would assume WY. wouldn't be near as strict.
Coaches: I have family in town for an early Christmas but, will try and call and find out how the sale skewed out. Encouraging to see the seller dropped his reserve on the closing day. You don't see the 50's coaches come around very often so, I would also expect some of the Canadian or European collectors to go after them. Just hope that somebody did their homework as well.
Have Great Holiday!
