2010 Lincoln MKT Funeral Coach by Federal

Lincoln cat

When I saw the new Federal Lincoln I thought, 'What were they thinking?'
Yes, Sarah you may be in the minority on the new Lincoln coaches. Did I mention my wife is an optometrist?
With this picture we now have an idea what the new Lincolns will look like too. Some Lincoln designs grow on you after a few years...this one will never do that.

WOW! I agree on the ugly! :pat:. . .I bet the only thing worse will be the matching limo:pat: Thanks for posting it, I'm sure others will like it and thats ok cause that makes the world go around.

The real thing

Here are some photos of an actual one, thanks to my good friend, John Baines. This one is an Eagle. That front end looks like a shark that will eat anything in it's path, but I have to give Eagle some credit; the rest of the coach does not look as bad as I had thought it would, given what they had to work with. I'm glad to see this coach has a traditional rear loading door and not a hatch. Notice how they're going for the Echelon look...

Seeing this, I am intrigued by what they'll do with the new Cadillac XTS chassis.

I dont know which end is uglier...the front or the back! If you want to see what a Lincoln Funeral Coach SHOULD look like, check out the pictures of MY car in my signature line!

The front end is styled after a 1941 Mark I, the front end to me is cool, the rest of the hearse is from outer space... my initial reaction is "ugly"! Who knows, maybe it will grow on me. I remember when the box style Caprice squad was replaced by the upside down bath tub Caprice squad I thought it was from outer space and the ugliest thing in the world. By the end of the run in 96 departments were stock piling them and sending cars to Shaheen Chevrolet in Michigan to have the old ones rebuilt. by then I really like how they looked and was dreading the Crown Vics. Now days I am dreading the passing of the Crown Vic.
If we look back to drastic changes like when 1976 Cads passed to 1977 style, the 1979 Lincoln passed to the 1980 style, even the loss of the 1996 brougham or how about car base ambulances to trucks. I guess the point I am trying to make is time changes things. I am glad that there are some attempts to keep the pro cars in the Lincoln or Cadillac family especially since Lincoln and Cadillac seems to care less about keeping the pro car nitch. I really dread the day we shift to Japanese cars. personally I think the MKT hearse is awesome, if it keeps the procar market where it belongs.

Crossover

Here are some photos of an actual one, thanks to my good friend, John Baines. This one is an Eagle.

This is the first hearse built using a crossover body style chassis. Quite a coup for Eagle. Gotta wonder if Accubuilt has a MKT prototype in the works. The selection of this chassis would tend to indicate Eagle found the Lincoln MKZ (Ford Taurus chassis) a less than desirable platform to build a funeral coach on.

Tony, thanks for the pix of the actual car. I didnt like it from the Federal ad, but the Eagle looks better, not sure about the front yet but I like the rest.

This is apparently the Lincoln suv chassis, it doesn't look as pimpasized as some of the other SUV hearse creations we have seen lately...

i actually kinda like it and i thought i would never say that did you guys hear that 2011 is the last year for rear wheel drive on these as well?

I sent the photos to a bunch of people in the Lincoln & Continental Owners Club to get their thoughts on the styling. So far, the consenus is that they dont like it. One comment was "Could be worse". Another was "Its awfully difficult to design a dignified car from todays 'bar of soap" offerings. Its even more diificult when the designers start with a car that is just plain ugly"

Thanks for the extra pictures. Everyone has an opinion and allowing for time for this to grow on us I don't think I will ever like any of it. Maybe we have been blessed too much in the past with the other great cars that have been around which we love.:alc:
