1970 Superior Rescuer Pics are up.....

James,
Excellent score on the ambulance! Very nice find AND save there!
Use your Photobucket albums to their full potential guys. I really need to write a tutiorial on how to link photos from your online photo albums into your posts. It only takes about 20 seconds per image to link high quality photos into your threads...

Thank you !!

Ok...sorry about not posting pictures here on the site.....

I know some sites do not want you to post a lot of pictures because of space or bandwidth or whatever......They prefer to have them in an off site ....
But as long as its kool.....I am Kool !!:specool:

Commercial "BE" Plates

I noticed it still has the old Black (CA) Commercial "B-E" (State Board of Equalization) License Plates that back then started with X or Y. The "B-E" would tax private ambulances on their revenue (gross receipts) independantly of any other state and federal taxes. You should save and restore them to go back on the car when finished......they are VERY hard to find. MM

Black & Blue

Jim: Just a follow-up on my earlier post..... are your CA "B-E" License Plates faded black or blue?. In checking my CA Commercial Plate Guide.... they changed to a blue background with yellow letters plate in 1970. So if your car was registered as a 1970 Model in Late 1969 it would have had black plates (that ran from 1956 to 1970) but changed to blue sometime in early 1970. So if they are BLACK Plates.... they may not be the original plates? MM

Mike,
The plates are original to the ambulance....

The build date for the ambulance was May of 1972.....

Will DMV allow these to be used as YOM ??

I know on the 56 plates (Yellow) they only will re-issue them if they are passenger car plates......but then I was told by a DMV "Technician" that ANY vintage plate can be re-issued *IF* there are 2 plates and the year sticker of the vehicle that they will be going on.....

Thanks
Jim

Jim: My error, I thought it was listed as a 1970? If its it's build-registration date is 1972 in CA...it should have blue plates with a yellow numbers-letters. Either way you should be able to use the old plates (UNLESS) you are registering it as a historical vehicle? The old BE Commercial Plates may still tie you in to weight fees as greedy as they are for fees? Either way I would still restore them and wing nut them over the new historical plates for shows. MM

I think we got off on a typo here. definitely a 70 and I would guess the build date was may of 70. which accordingly to auto manufactures would put it in the late side of the mid year.

Mike,
My recent purchase IS a 1970..........I also have a 1972...

However the 70 has the black plates which have been on the vehicle since first going into service.....

The 1972 was a east coast car when I purchased it so never had blue plates.....
At some point I may put on the correct plates but for now the "new" red and white plates go great with the color of the car !! :893USA-Smilie-thumb

Ohhh well...its ONLY money......Too old to chase women and cant afford to drink....:burp:.and if I dont spend it..the gov..ment just gonna tax me out of it.....so might as well put it in a AMBULANCE !!!

I spoke with Jeremy Piner and he did confirm that this is one of their rigs......

He did mention that he did not know if his grandfather or father bought it new or used.....he said a couple of the rigs were on "Stand-by" at the convalesent home they own/owned.....thats about all he remembers......

So it could of been up in Santa Rosa first with Mercy Ambulance.....

By the way do you have any idea WHAT type of lights those are in the back ??

Take care Kent !

housing

The important part of the housing is missing and extremely difficult to find. You might consider replacing these housings with bullet style, which are easier to locate. I had a full set last year, but sold them all off to members in need. Look to Ebay, they show up time to time
