If anyone is interested I posted pictures of the 70.

I have a call out to Jeremy Piner of Piners Ambulance Service in Napa Valley to see if he can confirm if this was one of their units....

I have some information on the unit as far back as 1990.....it was bought by a gentleman from a used car auction for $100.00......it then was put in INDOOR storage in Sept of 90......

From what the storage facility told me the rent was paid yearly until November of 2011......then no further contact of person or kin.

It was put on storage auction on July 12th of 2012....and purchased by the gentleman I purchased it from........

He was not a Procar person not even a "car" guy at all...he just saw an opportunity to make some money.....
He originaly was asking $3000....he said he thought that was a good starting point.......
I was interested in the rig but not at 3k...
I told him if he wanted to sell it that night (Thursday)...I would make him an offer based on HIS purchase price.....he said ok ..and showed me his auction reciept...it said he paid $700.00 plus 10% buyers premium plus 8 1/2 percent tax.....so aprx $837.00.

I offered to double his BIDDING price......and offered $1500.00.......to my surprise he said YES......and even offered to throw in a Craftsman Orbital buffer which he purchased to "buff" the rig...but after doing one side he gave up.....
So he didnt want the buffer and compound anymore........ok with me.....

Any comments or thoughts ??

Nice story

Thanks for the update James. I'd say this was a good buy. Looks solid and mostly complete.

Interesting car. I noticed that there is a middle mounted light on the rear above the door. The light I've seen mounted there is usually a loading light on an adjustable bracket...not something that goes into a casting. Any idea what type of light this was? If it was a sealed beam is it likely to have been a flashing amber?

Also noticed that there are mounting brackets for a cot bar on the right side of the pt compartment that would allow for a second regular cot to be used.

I might have some of the items you are looking for...I'll PM you James.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Oh yeah...that dog did well for being stored that length of time as well.

Cheers!

You're a lucky man !! This Superior is in better shape than my Miller-Meteor. inside and out.. Doesnt need a lot of job to get a good looking car! Wish I had this luck.
Is it the kinda control box missing on the dash? I tought they were installed on top of the headliner in 1970..

I would say you did OK. man I'm glad that was not offered to me that way. looks to me like some one started taking things apart of someone was stealing stuff off it in storage. either way there missing. way to random of stuff and wires sniped. the control panel on the dash was the standard superior plastic screwed to the dash. they would have been toggle switches and any not used would have a chrome plug in the hole. same panels used for years on there ambulances and combos the rear lights were seal beams there are missing the retainer ring. but still its fairly good inside and that's the important part. the piece missing on the passengers door I don't recognize but some one with one would know what went there.

Thank you Ed !!

What a relief...I told my wife "If I get Ed's blessing,I did Ok"......

Thanks for the "Switch" info on the dash...I was under the impression they were rockers not toggles....but you are right...I pulled out a picture of the one I used to work in and you can make out the toggles.....
Still dont know what that cut out is on the passengers fron door though....

I agree with you.....someone started to take stuff off but its little stuff like the radiator cap,the gas cap and the reflectors on the doors ?? !Also missing a panel cover on the rt of attendants seat as you enter.....??
They also took the alternator, the starter and cut a couple of hoses....strange..
of course the Cole Hersee battery switch is gone.....:(

The sealed beam three way on the back is a little strange to me.....so those were just regular sealed beams ?? Which retainer rings would work in your opinion ??
And how were they set up color wise ??(in the rear)....

The ignition has been punched out ,I guess so they could get the steering free from what the guy said.....and the bottom part of the dash on the drivers side is broken (tabs)......and ther are 2 shades missing from the pt compartment ??

But I feel being this close to me and all the glass is good no MAJOR body rust/work and MOST of the patient compartment is intact..and it is a local car...I did ok....

Thank you ...

I am not sure about those back lights myself.....but I guess anything is possible.....

There are mounts for a cot bar on the rt side...but the left side is completely
gone..???

Thank you for your offer,I am sure I will be talking with you....:smiley3:

Ohh and the dog.....well he is ALWAYS by my side and LOVES to pose....and hes only 10 months and 97#.....

Very nice ambo. She looks like a good starter car. congrats on the score. That passenger door cut off is very puzzling . Hmmmm Perhaps a emblem that somebody grabbed . well enjoy her. It is so rewarding to see her get back together piece by piece. I like to sit back and look at them after i finish working on them for the day and just think..... I DID THAT .

the set up for the rear lights would be the same as the front. what is confusing is the 3 prone plug. what they would do is buy the head light harness pig tail as it was readily available and use it. they only power one prong. fold over the one not needed on the back of the seal beam. the colored seal beams were cheaper then the other bulbs and with the headlight harness , easier to put in. noticed that it is set up for the right gurney and the right road flat also. the car would hang two and have two on the floor. the holes got to be for speakers. see two in the rear corner also. strange thing is they look to have been put in when new. the floor switch could have been rockers or a rotating one. they did both. if you can find evidence of the solenoids mounted behind the batteries they were rockers. but I would say it a nice project you have there.

My 1970 Crown Royale Combination had a flat, black plastic piece on the pass door mimicking the shape of the one on the drivers door that houses the wiper switch.

Jim,

Do you know what was housed there or what the purpose was ??

You are right it mimics the wiper housing on the drivers door....because the imprint left on the door vinyl is the same as the drivers door...? .I was thinking perhaps for mirror remote....but why such a large housing ??

Let me know...thanks !!

Possibly a provision for foreign delivery, so wiper switch can be mounted when and if they were to built a right hand drive version??? This is how mine looks.

One year older it's a 1969 but other than minor trim the same car.

Bruce,
Thank you for the pictures......that is pretty much what the "outline" on the door panel looks like.....I will have to go through the "Catch all" box and see if there is a black panel like that in there.....still wondering though what its for.......export seems like a possibility...but did they really have that many exports ??
I know that somewhere like GB,France Germany the roads would never handle a vehicle like a Cadillac Ambulance....especially in those days....
Even when I go overseas now and rent a Bimmer or large MB..it becomes a challenge in some of the smaller towns and villages......
Thanks again !!

Ed,

Went out and took off one of the front bulbs and sure enough...3 prong bulb (GE 4002) and 2 prong harness......still looks factory.....

Would you know off hand what type of retainer ring I would need for the back 3 housings ?? I bet that I will have to change the housings.....

Thanks again for your help !!

they should be the same as the front ones. all 4 got put one at the same place at the same time. try them and see id you can mount a front light and retainer in the rear.

Thanks Ed,
I tried to put front ones on earlier..I cant get the retainer to catch the lip on the housing......I think that the bulb may be the wrong one.....tomorrow I will take a set off the 72 and see what happens...
Thanks again !

can't tell for sure but it looks in the pictures like the slot is broken off the rear housing. that style I'm guessing is the single screw in the bottom and the tab on top of the retainer that hooks into the slot at the housing. the bulb will hook into the retainer. the set Bruce has pictured the bulb sets in the housing and the retainer clamps it and the housing did I not sent a set of them out to you? can't remember now who I set those Superior ditch lights out to.
