1954 Packard Hearse

"Nice original condition".......... Seriously??? No table, trashed interior, non-stock engine. For $6500 you would think that the seller could air up the tires and drag it away from that wall so a prospective buyer could see what the passenger side looks like!

Yep seller takes Super Salesman award. If $6500.00 would buy it a good deal.Body appears almost rust free from the great pictures. You would spend $6500.00 on rust repair on an eastern Henney. The coach appears to have an excellent grill. If the rollers etc are missing that is a problem. From the VIN its the 79th Henney made in 54. Also take note to the 15 inch wheels and 52 wheel discs, or at least I think 15 inch wheels as how else would the 15 inch 52 discs stay on. Remember all commercial chassis Packards had 16 inch wheels to the end. The coach has been converted to 12 volt as we can see the 55 to 57 Chevrolet electric windshield wiper motor installed. If anyone is brave I have a 54 Patrician with a good power train rusted to death body if anyone wants to jump in.This is for sure not the Henney we see in the east.

rust is all relative to were your at. but it does appear to be all there bodywise with none of the trim missing. then of course what is a bargain to one man is not to the other. me with no experience in what it takes to rebuild a Henny could not say buy or no buy. I do know one is looking at some expensive trim there to acquire.

It doesn't just need rollers, this one was a 3-way. It needs a table and everything inside. Just buying enough burgundy Mohair upholstery material to restore the interior correctly would set you back hundreds of dollars per yard. Unfortunately, these rough post-war Henneys seem to just linger on the market until someone picks them up for a street rod project..... and it's all down hill from there.

Plates

........ but I absolutely love the California black plate license plate number!!!

Kool original 60's plate.....;)

I am sure we will see more of this kind of plate in the next few months...California has actually gone and done something for the car enthusiast market by allowing 60's "Legacy Plates" to be reintroduced. They can be purchased for $50.00 and can go on ANY year vehicle.

The 50's and 80's did not reach the minimum pre order of 7500 plates so they will not be introduced at this time.

I could hardly even sell my former show car '52 Nu-3-Way for half that and it need only painting and some chrome from disuse!

Clearly this '54 has 15" wheels but wheels from a Packard sedan would not fit a Henney since Henney used a 5½" bolt circle and the passenger cars used a much smaller one. I once saw a '48 with 15" wheels that "looked" stock and actually used the original wheel covers but what they actually came from is anyone's guess.
