1949 Flxible

One of the Victoria area volunteer fire departments (Langford) has found and is starting to put together a plan to restore their 1949 Flxible Buick combination.

Here are some quick shots of it. They have a lot of work ahead of them as you can see. This vehicle served as the Langford ambulance. Not sure of it's exact years of service or it's previous history. Their society is attempting to gather more information.

When I hear/see more I'll post again about it.

If you can get me or post the numbers on the Flxible serial plate, I'll send them to Tom McPherson who can give you the vehicle's information from the Flxible production and delivery record book. This usually includes body type and service configuration, body number or production sequence, the name of the selling dealer, the name and location of the original owner, the motor and frame numbers and often the original date of delivery.

Bill....because this is a Flxible and is in Canada, I sent the post to Tom McPherson. He replied that there were only eight 1949 Flxible-Buicks sold in Canada. Four of these went to Ontario, one to Nova Scotia and three to Alberta. Of the eight, only the Nova Scotia unit and one that went to Chatham, Ontario were straight ambulances. Of the Alberta cars, one was a combination car and the others straight hearses. So...in total there were five hearses, two ambulances and one combination car sold in Canada in 1949. That doesn't necessarily mean that this car is one of these eight. This car could have been imported as a used car later in its life. The only way we'll know for sure where it went origonally is if we can get the numbers from the Flxible serial plate. Just thought that this may be of interest.

Thanks Keith...this might be the one that went to Alberta. The FD thought that's where it came from originally. I'll try to get the build plate numbers this week.
