Found a car I like...

I'm hesitant to post because I'm fearful someone will snatch it, but Im almost sure everyone here has seen it...

What can anyone tell me about Doug Scott?
He has a 76 that's been listed for months. Generally, if he gets something older its off his website in days. He has a M/M that doesn't seem to be attracting much attention.

What "model" is that, so I can do a bit of research, he says it needs a little attention in the bottoms of the doors and the hood. But it shows nicely, and looks very presentable even with its "issues"

I'd had my heart on a Landau, but I do recognize that a limousine style is decidedly "less hearse" and maybe a better "fit" in my neighborhood with ALOT of young kids. Plus, a bit easier to take out on a cruise around town or to th grocery store.

It is missing its hood emblem, and the M/M emblems which for whatever reason really bothers me haha

Are limousine style coaches less desirable?
 
It's a 1976 Miller-Meteor "Classic Limousine" end-loader hearse.
The Miller-Meteor book doesn't have a breakdown of production numbers for them in 1976. There's a picture of one on page 298 with a small writeup... mainly stating they had optional removable landau panels & ambulance signage for the rearmost windows, but the one you're looking at doesn't appear to have the threaded holes in the trim for attaching landau panels and it's obviously been used only as a hearse over time.
Nice coach though for the money if you want to get into a nice "driver" coach and cruise today... and if you don't mind a trip to Cail!!!

Doug Scott has been in business for along time and had a good reputation. You also have to remember his location. In California, people that think a car is very rusty to someone in the rust belt will think its very nice, so its all prespective.
If your heart is set on a landau, then get one, dont worry about what others think, you are buying it to make you happy, NOT them. No matter what style you get some will always have a problem with it. Im speaking from experence, Ive owned and driven a professional car as personal transportation DAILY for23 years.
As for which is more valuable, landau or limo styled, unless it is a very rare model (for instance only 2 landaus made by a certian coachbuilder in that year), it really dosent matter much. Some people only like landaus, some only limo styles. Just like some here only like ambulances but not hearses, and some feel the other way.
If you are serious about the car Im sure a PCS member in the area can check it out for you, take detailed pics you want and give you an accurate description. We do this for each other all the time.

Mike, you have good taste! I am not too much of a "hearse guy" eventhough I have owned a few of them, but this looks like a nice one! I have noticed it for a while, I even tried to get my wife interested in it, but she prefers ambulances and so do I. I personally favor the limo-style over landau, but that is my taste. As for Doug Scott, I think you will be happy dealing with him. Although I have not personally bought a car from Doug, I know people who have and they have nice things to say about him. It is my understanding that he is a straight-shooter and his descriptions alone seem to prove that. Good luck!
 
Thanks! I haven't done anything yet, we have emailed that's it. The car seems like its at a good price point and looks nice. Fr what I'm used to here on Long Island that's not "rust" ha but I haven't seen inside the jambs, can't be that bad though or I'm sure bed have more than mentioned it.
Like I said, it looks to be missing the hood trim, ornament and its badging. But that's a real simple fix I'd think. I'd like to see it get new carpets if I were to buy it since the gray looks dirty and more worn than the rest of the interior.
All in time. Need to think before making any hasty decisions. Anyone have an idea on bumper to bumper length?

My '76 Superior ambulance has an overall length of just under 245". That '76 Miller-Meteor that Doug Scott has is a sharp looking car. Good Luck
 
While I personally have not bought a car from Doug, I know people who have & they were very happy with the transaction. I have met Doug, and seen his facility and compared the cars in person to what he advertises and have found that he is very accurate in his descriptions. Bear in mind, the vast majoity of his buyers are funeral homes who are buying a car to be used in the profesion so hes not selling junk. If a car is not quite up to those standards, he is honest in description.
 
I had a lengthy discussion with Doug about that car earlier this year. As has been mentioned here already, Doug is a stand-up guy who is more concerned about his reputation than simply making a sale. He's very detail-oriented and will take the time to discuss everything about the car with you. He explained to me that it had been repainted at one point and for some reason, they did not replace some emblems.

I just looked at my post again and i have a BIG CORRECTION. I cant type worth a crap, but I stated Doug HAD a good reputation. It was meant to say HAS a good reputation. A little slip like that makes a whole lot of difference.

Mike I delivered a coach for Doug and bought the sister to this 76 . I bought this 72 C/B Limo style from the funeral home that had the 76 and the 72. Me and a friend drove a late 90,s coach up and he drove the 76 back to So Cal the trip was over 400 miles both the 76 and 72 made it back with no problems. The 76 has some rust in the bottom doors but even for left coast rust it is not bad at all. Back east it would be considered almost O rust. The gentleman that owned both coaches was retiring . That was the only reason for selling them. He told be that the 76 and 72 was the last new coaches that him and his Dad bought new and picked both up at the factory's. The 76 is nice but one problem here is 76 and newer vehicles have to be smogged every 2 years and the old stuff can be a pain so most people on the left coast go pre 76 or anything that has fuel injection . If you have any concerns on the coach give him a call . I have bought over a half dozen cars from Doug and they are what he says they are. If you fly into Ontario airport I ,ll pick you up and take you down to Burbank if you want to drive it back. :drive2:

Looks like a great coach for the price. I have known Doug Scott for years, and when I was a funeral director in So. Cal., visited his storage area in Burbank any time I was in that area. His description of any car in his inventory is always honest, accurate and detailed. Our mortuary purchased 2 coaches from him for front line service back around 2004, and we were very pleased with the cars and the transaction.
 
Ditto from here all the other positive comments made about Doug Scott. I bought an "as-is" 1967 C-B/Olds Combination Car from him about 10 years ago from funeral home in South Dakota that he had taken in on trade for a newer coach. After test driving it and checking it out throughly at Burbank, the motor thru a rod on the way back home to San Diego County. We had it towed to our yard and replaced the motor without complaining or checking with him as it was bought "as-is". He got "wind of it" a few weeks later from another SC-PCS Member... called and asked me for the receipts.... a few days later we received a check from him in full without question along with a short personal handwritten note of apology for it happening. He is the best! MM
