1992 Cadillac Superior

We needed another vehicle like.......... Anyway like some of the members know already we decided to keep our 1990 Buick Century Limited 9-Pass Wagon in the garage this winter. Our beater that we had been driving the last three winters quit on us February of last year when the transmission broke down. On a 1993 rusty Toyota Corollla we decided to stop at 3000.00 worth of repairs on the car, sell it off and then we drove the wagon last part of last winter, then through the summer. So come fall I had been tracking small coach's thinking that Dawn could possibly enjoy driving something more her size and I was right. Tracking coach's JW Coach finally updated their thrifties section of the website and I saw the coach. I told Dawn that I was going to look at the coach and ended up driving home from a test driving on the freeway, she took it around the block, it was a done deal. JW Coach is very fair, realistic, even generous pricing their used coach's since I can remember, we were given a great deal on the coach, treated us so well, regardless of the smaller amount of money transacted. So far I put a paint finish on the coach, we were going to touch up the pinstriping but the striper said he won't paint over a decal, replaced the bier pin pads, put the castrol high-mileage oil in, impressive is my opinion of the coach. After driving the coach now for a month, I have asked her several times if Dawn was Okay with the coach, with an open invitation to sell in the spring, NOPE! She now likes the coach over the Buick wagon. Best I have gotten out of her is that she likes the smooth riding suspension and the power of the engine. 4.9 Liter personally impressive when you drive in 3 instead of OD on the gear selector. JW advertised the coach as a Superior Eagle, But to the best of my abilities, I keep on coming up with it being called an Elite. Any weight in the the I.D. would be helpful. So we now get to the pictures that I know are very appreciated on threads. Enjoy!

You are correct, it is an Elite. Also you are right on JWs coaches and prices. If this one was still there in spring I prolly would have grabbed it. Im still kicking myself in the butt for not buying the 92 Eagle Rocky has now when I checked it out at JW.

Jeremy Ledford and I can vouch for this being a sweet car as we both know it well. I usually don't like the fwd cars but this one was great. I sold it to a guy in MN. to use I think as a pickup car, don't know why he didn't keep it. Lived most of it's life near Jeremy in good ole TN.

Downsizing of Fleet

It is my understanding that the livery operator in Brainerd, MN has downsized his fleet a bit. He traded in the '92 Superior Elite, a Federal Cadillac, and a Miller-Meteor Cadillac on a brand-new Krystal Cadillac (white) and a newer-used hearse.

I agree with the positive comments posted here about Johnson-Williams. The current owner, Todd Anderson, took over the business from his step-father, Larry Dunn, whom many of you have met over the years. Larry's attitude always was that he'd rather sell the older cars off at reasonable prices, rather than holding out for "big money" only to have them become paperweights in the garage. Todd believes in this same philosophy too. J-W is not a high volume sales outfit, thriving mainly on being the only livery service in the Twin Cities area, but they do occasionally take in a nice older trade, like Mike's '92 Superior.

Well, I can tell from Jeremy's pictures that the coach was stripped of curtains and rods before Jeremy and Danny, for whatever reason except I hope it was for the betterment of another worthy coach. We currently are working on getting a set of rods with no assurance that they will fit this year coach. We have a set of curtains for patterns, they are blue, we will sew some up if it comes to no other choice. Tell tale sign how much Dawn likes her vehicle is when coats and cloths show up to match the vehicle, yup we have that happening. Everyday she comes home telling me about another person at her work asking if it is her vehicle when they see a picture of the coach in her cube. The guys always tell her how cool they think it looks. Some stuff needs fixing, fortunately no have to do stuff yet. Did take care of a hole in the resonator, then we required the stainless steel chrome exhaust tip installed, as long as you got people staring at your back end all the time. Yes and standing up in their cars trying to see whats in the back of the hearse. It is so much fun to drive a hearse as a daily driver I can't begin to tell you, the comments are constant from the bell ringer telling me that it was the second hearse to have pulled into Fleet farm that day, to the question, has there ever been any dead people transported in the rear? I have a chance at a back at you when I explain that there have likely been thousands of deceased transported, that just about gets most folks men and women queasy, to the fainting point for some reason. Seriously it would be difficult to determine but it makes for an answer to a question. John I looked at Rocky's hearse when it was at JW also, that was a very good value as well, the coach is far from used up yet, very nice color in and out. My eye went to the silver Paramount that was for sale by JW at the same time. Todd Anderson is a great person to deal with, the guy is like the friend you had growing up that you could talk into lacing up the hockey skates down at the park and tip a bench over on the ice for a goal, shoot pucks until your feet got cold, just a regular Joe. This Superior Elite has 64,500 on it and runs well enough for not being on the dynamometer for a tune-up. It has the Castrol high mileage in it with a Napa gold oil filter, ran Sea foam through the gas and oil and a gumout in one tank for the fuel injectors, noticed a difference. I will put you first inline if we run into a need to sell. I will post future pictures and comments for everbody to enjoy.

All those commemts may be fun now, but trust me they do get old after awhile. I have drove a hearse for my daily driver for over 20 years so I know how old it gets.

In the short time I had my Merc the comments ranged from "But it had Dead people in it" and "don't come over to my house in that thing."

Daughter drove it once to her volunteer job at the local hospital and was hunted down and told NO!!!!

Well, I drove it from Shop Springs to Canton.....remember? Good 'ole "Whitie"..

LeeAnn, Danny did tell me that you helped out with a transport of the coach. As I understand the A/C compressor seized up? Danny explained that it had to be replaced in order to continue with the relocation. The "service Air Conditioning" message appears every time you start up and eventually goes away. Since we are in winter currently, the function of the a/c has not been a concern as of yet so nothing has been investigated in regards. At a stop light the idle rolls as well up and down, at times it will kill if you don't assist it to idle up a bit. So next time we have a few extra dollars, we have to get it on the dyno to do the adjustments.

Drapes.

Good news! Just to let you know I've got the former FH looking for the drapes and rods for you. They take the drapes out of all their coaches and tint the windows. As soon as I come up with something I'll let ya know.

Here's a little clearer lineage on your coach here! It was purchased new by the Mt. Juliet Funeral Home, Mt. Juliet Tennessee from Ambulance and Funeral Coach Sales, Nashville, TN. Mt. Juliet Funeral Home went corporate in about 1996 with Stewart Enterprises and was apart of that FH conglomerate till about 2007/2008 who also operate the Cole & Garrett Funeral Homes in Nashville/Goodletsville/Hendersonville,TN area. In 2009 Sellars Funeral Home of Lebanon, TN purchased the Mt. Juliet FH and changed the name to Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet. Shortly after I helped them with the sale of the coach to Danny. It was replaced with an all black 2000 Superior Cadillac Statesman Landu.

The car will idle up and down if you have it on defrost or bi level, in these modes the a/c compressor works, no matter the temp because it dries the air and more effecently keeps the window from fogging.

the service light comes on because it's low. adding a can of r34 is a lot cheaper them replacing the compressor again. remember John's note. put one in with the dye then this summer when you get it checked out they can find the leak with the black light. usually a O ring leaking at the fitting but which one. just dump in a can and drive it

Jeremy, Thank You! John, Thank You! Ed, Thank You! A 1992 model coach has the R12 in it if I am correct, I am not totally certain of it's availability. Our mechanic miight be inclined to be forced to do the changeover than the add a can, we will see. R134 conversions are more affordable than they used to be. I will be trying the idle at stops with the climate control off to see if John's suggestion has merit in this particular occasion.

Mike, already converted when new compressor installed.

Congratulations on the new coach. This car was in service 5 minutes down the road from where I was born and lived until I was about 12 years old. I remember seeing this car many many times, even after I moved.
