Ok, I am going to give this a try.

One of the other message boards that I frequent is the Matchbox Collectors Community Hall (the MCCH for short), a group of die cast collectors. Well, in their off topic area, someone has been posting mystery cars for identification. Just random European cars and trucks to have some fun and see if anyone can identify them.

Most of them have been random sedans and coups, but recently a trend has started and someone started posting vintage ambulances for identification. Not all of them are car based, so they don't exactly fit the pro-car defination, but I enjoyed checking them out over there and thought that the members here might enjoy.

On a personal level, I can not verify any of the actual makes and models. Some of them are ones that I have never heard of, but I am going by what Tim (the poster of the threads) has verified for me. He resides in Worchestershire in the UK and seems to know these vechicles. He has given me permission to use the images and the verification of the makes and models.

So, lets see what our US ambulance professionals can come up with on these... Good luck.



Here is the first one... Tim has erased the badge on the front, because it gave it away too easily... What do you think it is?

I'll start this out with two different ambulances and hopefully someone will get one or the other... This second one is shown from the rear because the front would pretty much give it away... I do have a front shot of this to show after it is guessed...

Ah yes, very good. So even though we are American collectors for the most part, there are some that do know the European models. Here is the front view of that ambulance...

Ok, #1 is still up for debate and #2 was an easy guess for Cary. How about another one...

For those willing to take a guess, this would be ambulance #3...

but what do I know

I was thinking #3 might be a Singer. Can't quite make out the logo on the emblem. Neat coach whatever it is.

Bruce, First, let me say welcome aboard. It's always nice to see new members join and especially members that are not from the US. Glad to have you and hope that you enjoy the site.

Second, you are very close to both of the ambulances that I have pictured. As I stated, I am not very familiar with my European cars much, so I am going to say that you have them.

The 1st one from what I am told is an Austin Crayford Estate conversion.
The name of the third one that I was given covers both of your answers... It was listed by Tim as an Austin Princess A125 Sheerline.



Mike, I've never heard of Singer, I guess that it is one that I will have to look up and see what they look like. I really enjoyed this "game" on the MCCH, because besides the ambulances, there were a lot of sedans that I had to look up and check out in more detail. Now, I have to find out about Singer which is fine with me.
 
Thanks for the welcome. I'm actually American, family in NE Ohio which is where my two Henney Packard Juniors reside also.

I think Crayford was a specialist custom body firm, so most likely they converted an Austin 3 litre into an estate (station wagon, to Americans) and this was the basis for the ambulance in the picture. Whatever its origins, it's a great picture -- wonder if the car still exists.

NE Ohio, that can't be too far from me. I am in Pennsylvania just across the Ohio line from Youngstown. If I drive about 5 miles west, I'll be in Ohio. What city are you from?

I've got a couple more ambulances. I just haven't had time to get them posted yet. Unfortunately, the others that I have are not car based, they are van based, but at least they are older vans and not the boxes that we know today. I'll see if I can get them into Photobucket and then posted here maybe this afternoon.
 
My family home is Akron, so we're not too far apart. Would be interesting to see the van-based ambulances too. Wish I would have thought to snap a picture of the UAZ van-based ambulance that I rode in (as patient) while in Kazakhstan. A bit primitive, but plenty of character.

This next one is shown in a staged accident for a public service announcement from a few years ago. The pictures aren't that clear, but I guess that when the commercial is focusing on the police department and not the ambulance, you will have that.

I know that this is getting a little too new and that just like the vans, it technically doesn't belong on a professional car site, I liked it and thought that you might also. It really looks like a tough rig to me. I wouldn't mind having one of these just to have some fun with.

Ok, this is the last one that I have and I will be very suprised if anyone can tell me an exact year, make and model of this one. It's a toughie!
