I had the unfortunate occasion today to get transported to the ER of the local hospital by ambulance and had to get transported by a "truck". Why couldnt they still use Cadillac based ambulances???? I slipped on some slippery antifreeze and hit my head on the ground. Im ok; I just have a mild concussion but the Cat Scan didnt show any brain damage or bleeding. (Hold the smart aleck comments regarding brain damage; my brother and co-workers already used them...lol) I will say that the 2 paramedics that responded were excellent in their care of me.

Probably out chasing poor innocent turtles. Glad you are ok, but bet you'll have a sore head for a few days!
 
How badly did you crack the concrete where you head hit ???? :yankchain: Get some sleep and you will feel better in the morning... :sleep:
 
now see if you had Benn wearing your foot ball helmet you would be looking for a new one. I hate antifreeze. everything about it except i doesn't freeze. glad things turned out OK. :poster_oops:
 
I'm glad to hear that your ok Rick!! After driving these "trucks" you speak of for many moons.. It's criminal making sick and injured folks ride in these bumpy Ambulances.. A decent Medic can make it smooth.. But not perfect.

I will say that the young lady driving the Aid Unit did a great job driving; it was as smooth as could be expected, unlike one other time that i was in one ,strapped to a backboard and in a neck brace. It was probably only a 2 mile ride to the hospital today so it was bearable but a ride in a "Real" ambulance would have been better!....And darn it, they didnt run code 3 either!

I was in a car accident a cupple of years ago, and had to ride in one of those things for about 45 minutes with a piece of wood fence stuck in my arm, and let me tell you it was the longest most painful ride I have ever had, I think I could feel every pebble it ran over. They were wanting to fly me there by helllicopter, and god I should have let them.

"Truck" Ambulances

Your story about being picked up in a TRUCK Ambulance reminded me of a personal experience a few years where our emergency heavy equipment services company was furnishing an Operated Hydraulic Excavator with a Thumb to a local fire department to partially demolish a large two story commercial building in which arson was suspected including the removal of some A/C Units off the Roof. In this process I accidently pinched one of my fingers that for some reason caused an extrodinary amount of blood loss. A New BOX FD Ambulance was already there on standby with an Engine and Truck Company mopping up the fire. I was going to simply going to wrap it up in a towell and go about my business, but the "IC" there insisted that the Paramedic Crew attend to me. When I got up in to their near new BOX FORD TRUCK Ambukance.... I made the comment to them (both were under 23 years old) just for conversation before I passed out that..... "the last time I was in one of your Ambulances in was a 1954 Packard" Both of them looked at each other and said "Whats a Packard?" It's tough to be old! MM

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Rick. Glad it's only a concussion...just be careful not to reinjure yourself. Take the time to fully recover...you don't want to get dizzy, fall over and reshake your brain.:pat:
 
Rick, ouch. Glad you're OK. Our pro-cars are nice to see and to ride in, but I do have to say, if I have to really work on someone, I'd rather be in a truck - more room to move and more stuff. So it goes.

Of course your L&I hard hat fell off when you went down otherwise you would not have hit your head:4_11_9:.I
It happens so fast when you fall I know I am the expert on falling I have never hit the head it has always been my face or my ribs Glad to hear your alright

yes, i can see the advantage of the extra space in a truck based rig if you have to be working on a patient. Luckily, all they had to do is transport me. The fun part comes next week when i see my primary doctor; the ER doctor had some concerns about my rather high blood pressure readings. Ohhhh the joys of getting older! On a positive note though, now I get to see how much i can collect in benefits from my AFLAC accident policy! The medical bills luckily will be covered by the State Labor & Industries program since it was an on the job injury. I spent the day today resting and doing pretty much nothing.

The airport experience I'm sure was a setup by Russ. When I left Flint I had a metal first aid kit fully stocked I had gotten from Scott and had it in my suitcase. Well, when that went through the scanner all hell broke lose. First one guy, then another, and then another and then me and my suitcase were sectioned off in the corner. Security gingerly opened my bag and ran some swab device around the inside. They removed the kit and opened it too. They swabbed the kit both inside and out, my suitcase again, and placed this swabber device into some sort of scanner. After 15 minutes they put everything back and I was on my way. Of course you keep getting "those looks" from passengers. I believe Flint has the toughest security standards of any airport I've ever been through.
 
The security people are trying a new method called profiling... Without a doubt, you must have appeared to them to be a terrorist.. :rofl1:
