Im sure its just the angle, but it looks like someone missed a big spot on the roof the last time it was washed.

Great eye John! I didn't notice that until you pointed it out.

It almost looks like could have been in the middle of waxing it too, but maybe didn't get a chance to buff that last section off yet...maybe that's what they were working on when the call came in?

Reflections of people on hood and along side are easily made out. Given sun/shadow angle, a case can be made either way as to what is happening on roof. I see a tree across front, building lengthwise covering passenger side, and sky/clouds on remaining. Larger:

Found another shot of that '54-'55 Superior ambulance custom built for Long Beach FD. This is dated earlier, 3/26/56. Ambulance is leaving Long Beach Pike Amusement Zone with a critical passenger.

While on tour, Vice President Richard Nixon and Congressman Edgar W. Hiestand stopped to speak with a polio victim in Santa Monica on 11/29/56.

Ceiling cot mounts, rear compartment light, and latches next to partition glass peg this ambulance as Superior. ;)

The shadow on the roof of the ambulance I believe are clouds. Look at it carefully, and you can make out the breaks between the clouds. Either that, or my eyesight is getting worse, not better....

Ambulance is confusing. Let's just say it is a '51 and appears ex-military (although not enough detail for me to differentiate between Superior or Miller)

Definitely a '54.. Smooth steering wheel. '55 steering wheels are ribbed (for pleasure?)

Horizontal waistline or rocker molding maybe but that vertical quarter trim is unmodified straight off a Coupe DeVille.

Ed is correct, that vertical quarter trim is unique to Superior. It will most certainly not fit a Coupe DeVille. Miller, Eureka and Meteor all had their vertical trim mounted on the rear side doors, giving the quarter panels a balanced look. Superior quarter panels of this era have a truncated appearance.

Another Superior trademark visible in your photos is the door garnish panel mounted 2-3 inches below the window opening.

The car on the left appears to be a Meteor, while the other is a Superior:

Here is another of Miller's ambulance fleet, this time a '56 Miller serving an accident on the 101 dated 3/8/58. Ambulance attendants and fireman are carrying Bula Honeycott to ambulance.

Thanks Martin - mental lapse after having "Miller's" on brain. ;)

Recently a singular red oval light over rear ambulance doors was mentioned here, although that post is evading me. Decent shot of such a warning light on this truck based ambulance dated 11/10/51. Anne Nesche, a coed from Oakland, is the patient.

Quiz time, the cruisers black/white with lights, and the cruisers with just the white door.which ones are which,

Can another Canadian take a stab,

The two black and whites are LAPD, you can see an LA traffic officer in the fore ground with the white rimmed hat and shoulder flashes. LA sherrifss cars were similar in color but had a different light/siren configuration.

The two white door cars are CHP.
