You Just Never Know!

Figured I would post story of recent find. SOme of you heard story in Ohio at meet if you were there and some found out other ways but here is in case you missed it. Thanks to Adam Borkat I met a guy around 1997 at a car show about 60 miles from my home. He was driving a neat car which was a 1959 cadillac MM hearse. It was in very good shape and low miles and everyone was after him to buy it. I didn't bother him cause I knew how it is to have something not for sale and people just keep on asking. I would see this car every few years here and there and last time I talked to him was about five years ago. Two weeks before Hudson I get a call from this gentleman stating he is ready to sell the car and wanted to know if I want it. Imagine my surprise! After couple of days discussing price I go to get the car as I didn't need to see it cause I knew the car and I drove about 70 miles home. It is original paint except for one door which I had to work on, replaced couple cracked windows, new carpet in front, redone seat in front. Needs a few more things but not interested in painting car at this point figuring worth more original and best part is car does not have any rust. Rear interior with burgandy velour and original curtains in great shape. Car is very drivable and needs very little else done to it to enjoy.

I had to do a double-take on it in Hudson, since as you said it is unrestored and doesn't grab your attention from three rows over, but when you look it over close up you realize how little it really needs to be a show winner. Fresh paint and you're 90% of the way there. Anywhere else it would probably command your attention, but there were a lot of REALLY nice 59's in Hudson this year. I doubt anyone is going to find a nicer one that isn't already restored though.

Your right Todd, there were alot of nice 59's in Ohio and I think most I have seen in one spot. There were alot of other nice cars there also as alot of models were well represented. Some times you have to really think about a car's life being in shape the 59 is in and not restored but still going after 52 years. Glad car has been kept inside all these years.

be real surprised what a little soap and water with a fine scotch pad. will do to clean up the car. after that buff it back and she will look look like a new diamond. that lacquer will shine down to the primer. keeping it inside keep it from cracking but it still has a layer of grime etched into the paint.

I got to take a ride in this car in Hudson, and boy oh boy, what a thrill! You haven't lived until you have rode in a 59 Caddy. And being a Pro Car, just makes it all that much better.:drive2::toocool::wowguy::071:

Glad you enjoyed your ride Josh. Took the old girl out again today for a longer ride of about 50 miles. Never would have thought a car from 1959 would drive and ride soooo well. Very delightful to drive and good air flow even though near 100 degrees she was comfortable and the temp hand stayed well below half way point so guess it was running cool enough. I do worry a bout driving stuff this old too far with fear of breaking down as it is a 52 year old car.

They do ride great, I think my 60 Superior was the best riding car I ever owned. As for driving them long distance I would not worry a bit, remember new cars break down too. I know if I was worried about driving long distance I would never be able to leave the house, it is over 40 miles one way to get groceries.

John, I usually am not afraid to take off in an older car but I guess not having this one long I don't know it's quirks yet so just expect something to happen to it. It has been cared for and should be ok for most trips I would take it on.

At least when a old car breaks down, its usually a lot easyer fix than a new car. At least you don't have to take a old car back to the dealer to have it fixed.

I understand your point because you have not owned it long, but as you said it seems like it was well taken care of, and in Ohio it ran great so I wouldnt be worried. I know from experiance this vintage Cadillac is pretty reliable.
