seen one a elington field back in the 60's. they converted it to carry crews to planes. it was a studebaker but the same box. always wondered because of the tunnel ligts. i asked the maitenance sgt. because i couldnt beleive it was bought for a crew truck. he told me it was from ww2 and they had built 2 benche inside to carry a crew but it started as a ambulance.
Here's a similar one just barely in this photo on shorpy.com http://www.shorpy.com/node/12502
(Probably the same as the one on the emsmuseum.org website?)
Very cool. Here's a blow-up of the ambulance in the photo, it's in the corner of a picture of a WWII parade (click Dave's link for the whole photo, it's a great scene). It's a Henney Packard.
I love that the three members of the ambulance crew - driver, nurse, intern - are the only ones in the photo looking up at the photographer, who is probably standing on the ledge of a building. The look on their faces says, "What the heck is he doing up there?"
By any chance you might or any one else have pictures of Henney Packard with this type of boxes as Chris has said this would be an excellent subject to model. Hopefully there are rear pictures of Henney Packard boxes.
