winters here time to tear it apart

I have been gathering parts for a year and now its time to tear the limo down agion. I got the whole front end off and going to replace it with parts from a sedan de ville that had a great front end.
If you remenber from last years posts I got the limo many years ago from a wrecking yard where they used a tractor to strip it of the moter and transmission, while its stripped down I am going to remove the right head and have the exhast manafold regasked It had a small leak last summer and now its really bad also I am trying to replace the A C sence the tractor made short work of all the hoses and vacum lines and wiring
Its nice to have the hearse parked next to it to use as a templet of how all the sheet metal returns to it proper place its all the ac and tubing that is hard to reroute most of the northwest cars have had their ac ripped out

keep plugging away and soon you will have to get another one as you have worked your self out of a job. it's a lot cheaper then visits to the shrink

one at a time

Don't worry rick I only tear one car down at a time but I do need to pull the head off the hearse and repair the exhast manifold on that one too. Is that a problem with the 68s 472 with the exhast leak on the right side?
The limo might show up with a green front end and blue for the rest of the body but hopfully I will get it painted by then
and no john I will never get them done just improved a little bit each winter, I tell my wife I could be at a bar drinking instead of at the shop working on the cars but I think she wished I was out drinking

one more weekend

still don't have the head off could not get my brother up to give me a hand I don't want to do the removal by my self my brother is better at tearing down a motor and being able to get it back together,
Started to sand off last years paint job I ran out of time last year before summer and had maco paint it with out primer or under coating Now its time to go over the car with the fine grit sand paper fixing all the nicks and dings.
I have new sheet metal for the front end but I really have not looked to closely at it yet but at a quick glance it looks better then the fenders I took off

head is off

my brother came up this sunday and we got the right head off with the exhast manifold now I just need to get it to a shop to have the bolts removed and the snapped ones replaced. We found the intake bolts were not very tight so I think I have had a good vacum leak all this time to. With the hood and the fenders off it sure makes woking on the motor very easy

their back

I got the head and exhast manifold back from the machine shop today they only had to helacoil three studs and plained the manafold sofar I am into this $98.00 Then $108.00 for gaskets I have some left over antifrezze and motor oil taken out of a car I junked out:D Reinstall the head and I can start putting the limo back together

sand blasting

Spent the morning sandblasting the radator core support and coating it with Rust Doctor I am waiting for it to dry before I start painting it. I found a core support with the battery box not rusted out, that is very rare here in the northwest.
I forgot to order the gaskets and new bolts for the manifold so I wont get the head back in this week.

very little rust

The battery box is hardly rusted and the fenders that came with the front end has little rust on the bottoms also. The cars I got them off looked like a pack of dogs lived in the car for years and smelled like it too and the rear sheet metal looked like it went through a demo derby but the front end was great

sanding is almost done

Both fenders are now sanded and the same with most of the hood, the moter is back together but we have not yet tried to start yet we still need to add the antifreeze and change the oil
after a week end of sanding my shop will not be dust free for a long time, lots of layers of green paint off the fenders and all over the shop now I now have a month left to get it painted for the NW meet in Issaquaha WA. the clock is ticking

home from the paint shop

My baby is back from the paint shop after a long week of waiting:071: my son and I got it back this afternoon and parked it at the shop and went home to do honey dos. After dinner I told my wife I needed to go to the shop and check the battery charger, Three hours laters I made it back home Its 9:00pm and now I am planing to go back at 5am to start installing the chrome and bumbers molding door latches grill rearview mirrors the list just goes on and on.
Thanks Mike. John and Paul for the help with the trunk lite their was just enough money left over from the paint job to buy a new light bulb and the trunk light now works

that's what counts. funny how you Wait around all winter and then it has to be done over night. but that is the way thing go. maybe I'll get to see it one of these trips out there.

slept in

I feel that my day was wasted I slept in till 6 am:poster_oops: I keep the car at the plumbing shop where I work and week days its hard to spread parts all over the place and so the place is mine on the weekends and then try to make it a plumbing shop on the week ends.
Also time crunch, NW Chapter meet is now only two weeks away, this morning so far I have the molding down the drivers side done. Back to work I have come home to let the kids and wife know that I still alive and its time to crawl back to the cave agion:17875:
