Whole Again!!!!!!!!!!.............

............Well, for the most part anyway. my 74 has been at a friend's shop for a few days and I just got her back. The big, gaping hole in her side is gone. Now for a few good days of body work and off to the paint shop.

Thanks so much. I hope to have the work finished within the the next month or so. This car was a metallic navy blue. The receipt from Superior called it Medallion Blue. I suppose I will go back with white. I think it is the "safest" with the body work that has been done and if I go with white I will not have to paint the right side or the top right away as I can save a good bit of it and you all know the top makes up a lot of the car.

Thanks Again,
James

besides you all ready got the door James white. it looks like they did a good job swapping the quarter. would be nice to see some progress pictures. don't see a lot of filler in it so prime and block it will and you'll be happy

Most of the filler will be in the door jam. The gap is a little wider than I would like, but for what it was I am pleased.

Regards,
James

I would like to put the fresh air vent back. It was heavily damaged in the accident but the inner components can be saved. The outer "scoop" was completely destroyed. If I could find the outer parts and get an idea of the correct place to cut the hole I would like to put it back.

Thanks,
James

find the old pane then just run a piece of paper on the crease from the taillight up. cut the hole and screw holes in the paper and save it. it's a boat vent. look there for a replacement one. don't worry about the gap as long as it's even they were all that way.

I had the privilege today to speak with the son of the original owner of my 74. The car was purchased by Dennis E Slate of Slate Funeral Home in King, NC. The son told me that he was not active in the business in 1974 but remembered when his Dad bought the car. The car was originally white and Mr. Slate bought the car from Superior Coach Sales in Greensboro, NC. He had Superior to paint the car Diplomat Blue. This was the last combo they bought before they went out of the ambulance business in 1974. They traded the car in 1986 or 87. It was really neat to find them still in business and belonging to the same family. I had hoped that he might have some pictures of the car when it was in service but he did not. He did tell me that his father passed away in May of this year and that when they cleaned out his house the had an auction and sold the red light that was on this car as well as the "90lb Siren that was mounted behind the grill". As if that wasn't bad enough he also told me the light sold for $3.00 and the siren was not much more :pat:.....story of my life. Anyway it settled it, the car will be white again.

James

I'm with Ed, looks like they did a pretty nice job on the quarter. I will get the vent in the mail to you this afternoon or tomorrow.

He really did and I was able to straiten part of the old panel enough to get the measurements for the hole for the vent. Thanks Again Josh. I appreciate that very much.

Fresh Air vent is installed and the door jams are done. If the weather will cooperate for a few more days she should be back together. My wife is cutting material for drapes. I finally feel like I am making some headway. I owe a special thanks to Josh Gentry for hooking me up with the correct fresh air vent. I hope to get some pictures tomorrow. Thank you all for the help and the continued encouragement.

Painted!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was warm and dry but windy, however I decided to paint anyway. Its not perfect but for an amateur in the back yard I suppose its O.K.
