We had a Blast in Berea and wish to thank Lonnie & Geraldine Reppert and Rick and Trish Cox for their hospitality and providing a great time for us. The story below was written by Rick Cox. I am going to post some pictures, if I remember how to! This is our 3rd year in Berea and gets bigger and better each time! Can't imagine what is already being planned for next year. And if you ever get a chance to hear Larry Sanders and Borderline, do it. They were great!
"Where Do They Get Those AWESOME Cars?"
The 3rd Annual Volunteer Chapter Berea Kentucky Meet was on September 16 and 17 hosted by Reppert Funeral Home. Lonnie and Geraldine Reppert along with Rick and Tricia Cox supplied attendees with plenty to do and LOTS to eat as there were 17 professional cars in attendance over the two day event.
Friday's early arrivals were subjected to a local college hangout and tasty Italian cuisine at Papaleno's Restaurant near the Berea College campus. Saturday started out early with a short trip to Kentucky's country music park called Renfro Valley and even though we did not see Glen Campbell on his farewell tour there, we did tour the Appalachian Village of Dumas, Kentucky. The older members in attendance educated the younger whipper-snappers on some of the objects displayed and the ways of growing up as they relived many childhood memories and stories from their parents.
A quick trip up the interstate back to Berea brought us in line with participation in the 15th Annual Spoonbread Festival parade. The parade allowed the use of lights and siren to the amazement and pleasure of the both PCS members and the crowd of several thousand. That is where the title of this article comes from...as the chapter's vehicles were proceeding past the review stand, a little tyke was heard as he looked up to his Dad and remarked loudly (to get over LeeAnn's siren blasts) for all to hear his question. This comment in itself made the meet all the better!
The Repperts supplied a wonderful catered meal complete with a PCS chapter cake and other desserts after the parade on their funeral home grounds and the lazy evening was spent with tours of the funeral home, close inspection and stories of the cars, and an evening of fellowship. To end the meet on an even higher note, the group later walked the short distance to the park where the festival was spotlighting chapter member Larry Sanders and his band, Borderline. The Repperts and Coxes wish to thank everyone who made the trip and be aware that plans are already in the works for the meet again next year.
