What Are The Odds That Your Car Will Be Stolen?

I think our professional cars are seldom seldom targeted for theft. The National Insurance Crime Bureau list for the top 10 cars is:

National Top 10 by Vehicle Name/Model
Most Frequent Vehicle
Rank Vehicle Year Stolen
1 Honda Accord 1994
2 Honda Civic 1995
3 Toyota Camry 1991
4 Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size) 1999
5 Ford F150 Series/Pickup 1997
6 Dodge Ram 2004
7 Dodge Caravan 2000
8 Acura Integra 1994
9 Ford Explorer 2002
10 Ford Taurus 1999

Okay, I kinda get some of those. But, why in the world would anyone steal a 2000 Dodge Caravan or a 1999 Ford Taurus??? No offense if any of you drive one, but it's just not what I would consider a "hot" car to run right out and get. And why are people stealing 20 year old Camrys? Are they looking to re-sell them in five years as collector cars? Are we going to see an explosion of re-VIN'ed Camrys at Barrett-Jackson in 2016? :D

I mean, if you're going to risk going to jail, you aught to make it worth it. Go steal a sports car or luxury car. I guess I just don't get the mentality of someone willing to get arrested over a car that with a month or two's worth of honest work, you could outright buy in cash! Although I guess if they were ambitious people, they wouldn't be stealing cars.... :confused2:

Thieves

You'd have to be pretty stupid to steal a hearse or ambulance, but then again people are being arrested around here for stealing copper from large a/c units - while they are turned on, risking chemical burns and electrocution. I'm more worried about someone getting in and taking the cots and fold up stretchers and any other aluminum in the back to scrap than actually taking a car. Despite living in a secluded spot, someone did take scrap metal and wire from around the house over this past winter.

The black market for car parts is what drives the list for stolen cars. Although many are the last thing you'd think would be stolen, after you look around the parking lot at Wal Mart you see just how many Camrys & Caravans are still on the road... and they get stolen for chop shops.

Stolen ambulances

We had 2 rigs stolen in the 21 years that my partners and I owned professional and emergency ambulance service.in both cases they were stolen from the emergency entrance of our local hospitals.rigs were almost always left running,to keep them warm in winter and cool in summer.in both instances the thives were caught and prosecuted!!!!!!!!!:14_6_12:

I was a car dealer for more than thirty years. In that time, I had six, or seven cars stolen off of the lot. The cars that were stolen were usually the last ones you would expect to be stolen. I guess there really is no accounting for taste, is there?

If any of my pro-cars get stolen...I am giving the police a list of the PCS membership!!! Who else wants to steal a pro-car?

Anybody who steals ANYTHING of ours better hope the police get to them first. They will be a lot more gentle on them than we will be. No threats...just promises.

I've got no use for thieves at all!!!!
