Funny thing happened on the way to planning the meet.............................. Dan Skivolocke picked out a beautiful meet location in Warren, Ohio called the Avalon it was a great place for our meet with ample parking, lots to do and the Packard Museum nearby. Unfortunately Dan got ill, when we went back to take the next step, the place had changed hands, they wanted us to park our cars at a farm they own about a mile down the road and oh, the jacked up the price another hundred a night,,,,,,,,NO THANK YOU!
So then we looked at Oglebay, West Virginia at their resort. Lots of things to do, beautiful location, prices were decent but they wanted us to park in a lot down a steep hill that would not have worked for our older members and members with mobility issues, back to the drawing board.
Then I remembered Walt McCall asked me a few years ago why we don't do a meet in Loudonville, Ohio, the home of Flxible. I looked into the Mohican State Lodge at Perrysville, Ohio. Perrysville is situated between Loudonville and Mansfield. There is so much to do in this area and it is going to be unlike any International Meet you ever attended. As a matter of fact I feel there is something for everyone in this area and at the lodge itself. In the coming weeks I will be telling you all the things to do in the area and official meet activities planned.
The actual meet starts Tuesday June 29th,2021 but the lodge has agreed to give us the discounted pricing Sunday 6/27 through Sunday July 4th. In today's installment, I am going to tell you about the lodge itself. Nestled in the hills of Perrysville overlooking Pleasant Hill Lake, the lodge has 96 guest rooms. There are four parking lots on the site all close together and all level with the lodge. The rustic lodge has a gift shop, conference and banquet rooms and a spectacular restaurant and bar. We spent the weekend here this weekend and the food was great! Breakfast HAD NOT ONE BUT TWO KINDS OF UNLIMITED SCRAMBLED EGGS AND NEVER, I SAID NEVER RAN OUT! And every meal was great. There is a large indoor pool, hot tub and sauna and a large outdoor pool. Activities include tennis, volleyball, shuffleboard, game room, fire pits and a cemented walking trail around the facility. The view from the restaurant overlooks the rolling hills and Pleasant Hill Lake.
Getting to the lodge is a pleasant drive. Once you arrive off the interstate, it is likely you will not drive on a four lane highway again for the week. It is all well paved two lane roads that surround the area and the drive is leisurely. While there, if our events are not interesting to you,you can wander off on your own and rent a boat of varying sizes from the Pleasant Hill Marina, go fishing, or go golfing at the Pleasant Hill Golf Course or enjoy the Lodge's amenities, if your brave enough you can take on the zip line that goes across the area..
In upcoming posts I will talk about what we are planning on doing in nearby Mansfield, Loudonville, and trips to Berlin, Sugarcreek and Dover. I think you will find you may want to come early and stay late.
