Way before its time... Walt McCalls models

I was amazed and inspired by the hand made models of caskets, cars, church trucks, 3way tables and embalming room table and cabinets that
Walt McCall displayed at the 2012 Micro-meet !!!!!

He made these items with a friend between 1957-1962 !!!!!
Talk about a life long obsession with the funeral car and industry.

Well before I was even born, Walt was creating models of what we find fascinating today.

Three cheers for a guy with a passion !!!

THANK YOU for bringing and sharing your treasures with your friends in the PCS !!!

You da man Walt,
Darren

Thanks for those kind words, Darren. I'm delighted to finally be able to share this stuff -- more than 50 years after we made them. - Walt

oh boy I can hear the Dr now "tell me how did you spend your child hood"

they would have a field day with that one. Walt you'll never get a gun permit.

Walt sent this to me a few years back; I'm sure he won't mind my sharing it here:

This photo was taken in 1961 for a Canadian weekend magazine. It shows yours truly surrounded by some of the fire apparatus and professional car models I scratch-built when I should have been doing my high school homework. At one time I had more than 100 fire engines and about 40 professional cars in my very own "fleet". Note the 1962 Superior-Pontiac Consort and 1960 Ford station wagon in the foreground. how many others can you identify? - Walt McCall

(Walt - did you ever build any ambulances?)

I don't care how old I am, I would sooooo want to play with that stuff. I still harbor the same feelings about the "Lincoln Log". Whenever I go into a toy store to buy a gift, they scream "BUY ME". But I never do... I had a knack for building massive G Gauge railroad tressles out of lincoln logs and hot glue. Ruined many a' expensive train in our backyard that way. :17875:

What happened to his collection?

Who's collection, Walt's or Chris K.'s?

Walt displayed some of his items at the Micro Meet, and I assume he has all of his models still. I love that photo of Walt, he looks like a little kid!

Sounds like Chris K. busted up a lot of trains and a lot of Lincoln Logs.
