I am sitting and watching the Macy's parade and they just had an antique circus wagon pass by!
It was such an interesting coach that I wanted to know more, so I did some research.
It was "The 1903 wagon, known as the Ringling Bros. United States Band Tableau, will be pulled by eight Percheron horses..." according to the information listed on the site here.
The picture below is from this site on the history of circus wagons... Bandwagon: Circus Historical Society. According to their site, this wagon commanded a price of $1,500 in 1903! Their site is interesting and gives details of a lot of the coach builders that built these circus wagons. Names like...Moeller brothers of Baraboo, WI; Forepaugh and John Robinson; Sebastian Wagon Works of New York City; Bode Wagon Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio.
My first thought when I started researching the circus wagon was... were any of the listed coach makers (Moeller brothers of Baraboo, WI; Forepaugh and John Robinson; Sebastian Wagon Works of New York City; Bode Wagon Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio) also constructing professional wagons at the time?
