Mike, I purchased a set of correct "year of manufacture" plates off of him (at Pomona) back in 1989, when I brought my '59 Cadillac Series 62 convertible down to CA from Canada. Had no problem at all getting them registered with the DMV. My only regret is when I sold the car to a guy in Australia many years later, I dropped it off at the shipping service in Long Beach, and forgot to take the plates off the car. Not that I probably could have used them again, but it would have been nice to have them for a keepsake!

Terry,
I have bought 6 differant sets from him in the last 5 years...from $100 a set to $350.00 a set..But the YOM business for small dealers is about to end here in Calif....

Under a new proposal by our State DMV.....thay are about to go into the RETAIL sales of "Old Style License Plates" from the 20's thru the 80's...that is they are going to REPRODUCE the color and styling of the early YOM plates...
That will for sure kill the market....

There is even a market that is reproducing the "year and month " stickers that go in each coroner of the plates...(although illegal)..they do such a good job..DMV cant tell.....that market will go by the wayside also.....

But with the current mess we have here...I guess thay will do almost anything to turn some bucks.....:071:

How we have done it to keep above board with the CA-CHP and DMV is to mount the Replica E-Plate on 1st, with thumb screws long enough to install the regular or historical vehicle plate on 2nd. That way we go to and from the events legally, but can quickly pull the outside plate off during the parade or static showing event. THANKS for your input of the License Plate Man, I will be calling him later today. (*) I have a lot of City-County CA-E lates, but the "diamonds" for state plates are much harder to find. MM

But they will probably charge the same amount, or more, than what some dealers now charge for true YOM plates.

People who don't mind fake repop items will snatch them up. Mine on my '52 are originals, plate & tags, and look it.

From what I have seen........the price point will be.... 1930's=$39.95
1940's=$49.95 and 1950 thru 1974=$59.95.......and each year tag will be $19.95.......this is the proposed rates as of January 2012.....it may be changed but who knows.......

You are correct about original plates...its just that they wont be so special anymore,in other words EVERYONE will have the replicas......:my2cents:

Found!

Just to let everyone know, we found a set of the exact (CA) State Diamond <E> Exempt (Black on Yellow) plates we were looking for...... for our restotred X-CDF 1949 REO Brush Engine from Darryl Lindsay a fellow copcar.com member from (CA). They were in near pefect original un-restored condition, very reasonably priced and just what we needed! THX-MM
