Hey Folks!
Just a reminder to folks who get around alot. I'm looking for a 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Must be rear wheel drive and have a super 4.1 and powertrain!
I need a donor car for my 85 Eureka with a very tired 4.1 in it.
Yea, I know, why a 4.1? I've beat myself with this one too. But, even though it would not be "original", it would be "original size". And the whole swap process would only take a good long week end to pull off.
Interior and body condition not really to important because I really do not need anything, now. Blue would be a bonus.
Must be reasonably close to east coast of Georgia. Shipping from Alaska and Washington will be deal breaker!
Just keep me in mind as you travel. You never know what will turn up.
THANX

have you checked into fishing up what you have. it might be a wash as far as cost . that way it would be original.

Long story Ed. My mechanic rebuilt this engine and even though it ran good it used a quart of oil about every 50 miles. It did not smoke much though. Everyone said it sounds like rings were put in backwards. I got bummed out on it after this happened and was scared for my mechanic to go into it again. He was trying to retire and maybe the job was too much for him? Anyway I traded to Peter which was my first mistake cause I would love to have her back. If taking down again andd fixing rings would cure it that would be great but I am no mechanic and neither is Peter. We both want it to be kept original even though 4100 not best motor in the world.

Theres one here in my area. Its an 85 RWD with a 4.1. Really nice shape. 142,00 miles. $2,600 asking price. Kinda pricy for a donor car. Ill keep my eyes open in the VA area. Not to terribly far from ya.

Send the original engine out to Jasper Engines . If you tell them that you want to keep it all original, they will rebuild your original engine, and deliver it back with a 3 year, 100,000 mile engine warranty. You will be way ahead in the long run, and will have an engine properly rebuilt that you will not be afraid to take cross country. You can spend the money piecemeal by swapping another tired engine in, or you can pay for it all upfront, and have a better engine in the end.

The block is not original anyway as piston went through that one. Peter just wants to keep a 4.1 in it instead of trying to convert to something else.

I really think my choices are going to be limited on this one. I have been told that FWD 4.1 is a no go because the block is different for mounting trans and accessories. I think I got this from the CLC forums, but I'm not sure now.
And your right $2600 does seem kind of steep knowing its a donor car. Please do keep your eyes an ear open for possibilities. THANX
Danny
Given the relative rarity of this engine and the fact I really have no place where I can have it down for a protracted period of time, I figured this to be better. I don't really want to tear it down and find something serious that may render it unrepairable. Junk yard source, if you find one, is an iffy proposition at best.
#6 spark plug fouls VERY FAST! Others look to be OK.
On second thought, find a junk yard one if it wasn't destroyed thanx to el presidente's cash for clunkers program, have it rebuilt, then swap, may also be a process I shouldn't rule out.
Unfortunately NO YOUR NOT GETTING HER BACK!!! ;)

Working negotiations now on a local 1984 Eureka hearse. Not too much of a car but...the engine...wow!!! It runs as smooth as brand new!!!! Body very neglected and sideswiped on the pax side but no broken commercial glass and still driveable.
Keep fingers crossed this pans out for me. Santa, are ya listening?

I truly hope it works out for you Peter. When you get it fixed we will talk about a trade.

Deal done! Found it needed a radiator, which is expensive because both trans and engine oil coolers in same tank. OK. Figured I'd put new water pump on it too. Don't mind investing in engine, just don't want to spend money on anything else. Found pax side door window motor inop so wedged it in the up position with a hunk of wood.
Considering condition, figured we'd test everything out 'till October then use it for haunted house as a zombie response vehicle. It really is a turd, so don't flame me. Danny Ryder has seen picts of it and will confirm.
If engine survives summer, all is good for transplant next spring.
