Trip to Ohio

Got home today from a trip to Alliance Ohio !

I was down in the fall of 2010 to pick up a '61 CC Cadillac I bought on ebay.
Mike Stevens and I split the price of the car. I got the windshield and dash and he got the rest of the car.

We took the windshield out of the car in Ron Devies driveway and then I headed over to visit with Dan Skivolocke.

He told me he was updating his funeral fleet at that time.

When I got back to Toronto a friend of mine told me he was looking for a newer hearse as an everyday car.

I told him about Dan's 1996 hearse and he ended up buying it. He had to wait until Dan got his new car.

We went down on Sunday so he could have a look at the car and make the other half of the payment. He paid the first half by bank transfer.

It was a great day seeing a hearse and owner being united !

My friend Don has finally agreed to join the PCS and will be attending the Ohio meet this summer !

He owns an outstanding 1960 MM Cadillac 3way self leveling Hearse and a 1970 Superior Cadillac 3way Hearse.

It was a trouble free drive both ways. Dry roads, no snow or storms.

Definately a fantastic visit and dinner with Dan.

PCS people are awesome !

Can't wait for Flint and Ohio in July,
Darren

Glad to hear you had such a good trip, Darren. A visit with Dan is always lots of fun.

For those of you who have not seen the 1996 S&S hearse that Dan sold, it is 1 of 2 (per Dan) built with a lift gate style rear door. I'm not sure if there is an official name for this style. If anyone is aware, please fill us in.

I had always hoped this rare coach would find a home as part of a car collection where it could be preserved in it's retirement, but did not have the financial means to purchase it myself. Glad to hear it has found a new home. Hopefully, we will have a chance to see it at a future PCS event.

When I showed my 2 1962 MM Cadillac hearses at the Toronto Funeral Trade Show in the fall of 2010, the S/S booth had a lift gate hearse on display about 40 feet from my cars !

It was a new power lift gate being offered again. First time since the 2 made in 1996 that stayed in the US. All other hearses that were made with those tail gates were shipped overseas in 1996.

Not my style but a rare option.

Don will take care of the car for sure ! He's a hearse lover.
He got his first hearse at 15 ! He is now 55. 40 years of hearse driving under his belt. More than most of us here for sure !!!

Ron

I was just a passenger this trip !

I did mention you to my friend a few times when we were there and also talked about you when we were with Dan. ALL GOOD THINGS !!!
We saw a local police car and your name popped up again !

You were with us in spirit brother !

By the way, I really appreciate your work in making this years meet a fun one.
I can't wait and will be glad to see you in Flint in a few weeks !!!

So glad Dan plans to make it to Flint as well. We will have a blast !

I will be in Alliance again in a couple months. Don has left the car with Dan until the weather clears up and the salt is washed away.
He kicks himself for noty taking the car home with him. The roads were dry !
(But salty for sure.)

Lets plan a dinner for something next time I in town. That would be awesome !

Thanks !
Darren

Here is the photo of the Cadillac S/S Hatchback on display at the Toronto Funeral Show in the fall of 2010.

It had a remote to open and close the door.

the use of the gas struts to me is a problem. they take the cheap way out. if they wanted it to open remote then why not a set of levers that would stand the door up enough that a tall man would not hit his head on it removing the casket. sorry it still lookes like going to a mine van to me.

So close but yet so far!

Well DB... I would have enjoyed getting together with you, had I known you were so close!

We could have had a unicycle race... or at least a meal!;)

I'm delighted that things worked out for you!

GO STEELERS!

A little off topic here but Rick after last Sunday, I say GO STEELERS!!!

Rick

I will advise the next time I plan on heading down !
Didn't really think Pittsburg was that close.

I will have my souped-up unicycle with the slick tire ready for our race with me next time I come down.

Danny, Ed

Like I said, the hatch is not for me and I dislike the one I have on my van.
Winter is even worse with a hatch.

See ya in Flint,
Darren
