Touching Procession

Last July, we held a service for a gentleman named Bill Scott who was retired from the Indiana State Police. He loved working for the State Police and continued in law enforcement after his retirement. One of his six daughters followed in his footsteps and serves with the Cumberland Police Dept.

Mr. Scott was impressed with the new Dodge Chargers the State Police drive. He even bought his little granddaughter a battery operated police car, complete with lights, siren and PA system. The family mentioned that it would very special for his 4-year-old granddaughter to lead the funeral coach in the procession. We assured them that this is exactly what we encourage to make the event special and memorable.

The procession from the funeral center to the mausoleum was led by Mr. Scott’s daughter in her patrol car. Gracie May and her cousin (flanked by her big brother and cousin) led the coach with her battery operated police car. The car went 5 mph and she handled it like a pro. As the procession drove through Washington Park East Cemetery there was a Cumberland Police Officer at each intersection with their lights and sirens on. As the procession passed, they fell in line behind the procession.

Our funeral director, Buddy Fletcher, arranged for a bagpiper to play Amazing Grace as the casket moved from the coach to the crypt. The bagpiper was a Lt. with the State Police Forensics Dept. The family was very pleased, and this little granddaughter will be forever touched.
