Tony Karsnia - Deceased - 1971-2020
September 12, 1971 - November 2, 2020
Today dawned bright and sunny out here in East Bethel. I was scheduled to spend the morning helping Gene Rafferty get his cars out of winter storage. Since I just got our '68 Miller-Meteor Duplex back from the mechanic (carb rebuild, replace broken exhaust manifold bolts, and general servicing), I drove over to Gene's place in that car. I was in 7th heaven all the way; it runs like a new car again and sounds great, being nice and quiet.
Had the pleasure of a nice long drive back from the storage facility in Gene's beautiful '76 Superior Cadillac Sovereign hearse. This is a 73,000 mile car that was just retired from service in rural South Dakota a few years ago. It runs and drives excellent. All three of Gene's cars (the hearse, a '69 Superior Cadillac 51" ambulance, and a '77 Corvette) started and ran good, only needing baths very badly!
Once I got home, I decided to spend the afternoon outside, cleaning and detailing the '68 combination. Then I came inside and discovered the mail man delivered a large box in my absence. As I excitedly opened it up, I knew the car would have to wait, for the contents of this package warranted my attention for a good while.
After I enthusiastically revealed the contents of the box to my wife, Kim, (who was already fully aware of what it contained and had contemplated hiding the box so as to prolong my suspense) I laid down on the living room floor to begin perusing the new arrival. Our British Lab, Bradley, was hanging out with me.
After awhile, Kim came in and was going to spend a minute or two reading over my shoulder. Seeing her approaching, Bradley got excited. In my attempt to shoo him away from me, I moved my leg and ended up tripping Kim, who fell on top of me. As Bradley went scrambling in a flurry of excitement, his paw got tangled up in one of my son's Playstation controllers. When he attempted to run the other way, the Playstation came flying out of the entertainment center, bonking Kim on the head. Once the calamity ceased and we knew everybody was ok, I couldn't stop laughing.
The object that had arrived in the box was unscathed, thankfully.
While we don't have photos to illustrate the living room incident (which we probably couldn't replicate if we tried), I have attached a few images to accompany the rest of the story.
