Then......and now.

During my visit to Milwaukee last week one of the highlights was visiting with friends I have known for years. Friday afternoon while most people were on tours Mike Riefer, Bill Peoples and I were shooting the breeze when Mile pulled out a portion of his literature collection. I have borrowed stuff from other members in the past to digitally reproduce it as there is an 11X17 inch flatbed scanner sitting in my office here. I pondered borrowing Mikes Collection ( or a portion of it) to scan it. Knowing my plate was going to be full over the next few months I opted to do the next best thing. SHOOT IT! Using Bill's immaculate trailer floor ( you could literally lick it!:p )with a backdrop of oak I spent the next few hours carefully imaging Mike's collection. I had the occasion to pull my camera out this morning to do some other shots and as I started looking at the pictures I remembered one thing I wanted to do upon returning home. One issue was the Henney "Program of Progress" from 1930 when the NFDA was meeting in Milwaukee showing local Henney customers.

Then

And Now.:D

These types of "Then & Now" photos are very cool. Someone else once posted something similar. A thread should be started like this where they are all posted in the same place.

Another one I remember recently seeing was a "then & Now" church that was used as a back drop in old pro car brochures.

Very cool indeed and thank you for posting it. Post more!

Newton KS. In reading the letter the firm was pleased with their 3 month old Henney Ambulance. But over the years...

.....they were not pleased with the look of the front of the building.

Here's a good "then and now" situation, featuring my '57 DeSoto wagon from the New Kensington Fire Co. #3 in PA, NKFD's '49 Mack pumper, and a turn-of-the-century NKFD firehouse (now privately owned).

Then = 1963 (NKFD photo)
Now = 2011 (my photo)

Posted this one on the fleet shot thread but here it is:

ambulance, hearse and child's hearse from the "Caron & Freres" funeral home, Jonquière, Quebec. circa 1945.

and a street view now, the Funeral home is still at the same place 106 years after the first brick.

Asheville, NC's 1924-built FD & PD HQ. The Ahrens-Fox was Asheville's only, acquired through 1927 annexation of Biltmore, the community created by George Vanderbilt; otherwise, American LaFrance was the only inhabitant of the stations between 1919 & 1984. Bay doors were widened in the '50's. Yes, the flag between the new deliveries is backwards.

if you tell us what your looking for you might be surprised what pops up.

Im looking for The Chapel Hill Funeral Home/Bynum Weaver Funeral Home and Ambulance Service (now Knotts Funeral Service at 113 N Graham st, Chapel Hill, NC)

as well as Williams-Weaver or Weaver-Williams Funeral Home (now Tate Realty & Construction Co at 342 W Rosemary st, Chapel Hill, NC)

As I've been meandering through all my images from last week....trains in Dolton Il, procars....and more of the literature shots, I found this AFTER I started this thread.

As time allows I have been searching for more then and nows. Sadly alot of the buildings that scream funeral home are gone....now parking lots, modern strip mall or Quickie Marts.

Note the Pierce lurking under the portico.

Not exactly a then 'n now, but sorta

An area funeral home allows EMS to house a unit & staff in a building next to the funeral home.

While I could not find a picture of this place back in the 30's......it was a Henney Dealership right down the street from a warehouse I (and numerous other PCS members visited) in Pittsburgh back in 2004 I think.
