the thrill is going

the 53 had been parked under the cover for about 5 weeks or so . took the cover off yesterday and moved the car. it fired right up. decided what the heck it's running, ready to go and I needed more rat poison. so we jumped in and ran up to the VA to pick up my meds. came out and fired it up and drove home. the car has lost the excitement it runs fine, stops like it should, the heavy Iron rattle in the rear end is gone. oh sure there is the little things like no wipers no lights and a hole or two but the will it start and will we get back is missing. I might as will finish it up now the fun is gone.

yes, your not alone there. it was a 20 min and 10 gl of gas drive around at the Minneapolis one. how ever as thin staffed as we are here you can find a parking spot any time you go up. kind of makes me sick seeing that. I remember when the 200 bed hospital was full along with the 400 bed domiciliary. the grounds looked like a park. now it's keep a set of contract workers tearing up something on the grounds while you cut staff on the inside. a slide of hand illusion so casual visitors will thing It's up and running. millions spend in infrastructure and positions not filled so pt care is cut or contracted out. mean while a grateful nation has no Ida what they are doing to veterans health care. but this station here is on the front line in the battle to keep the lip service made to the troops. we go, your next. remove the little guys then the big ones will fall. mean time I drive my 53 and smile and node

Your right Ed in what you say, I take my uncle regularly to the Vets clinic here and its just as you say........so at least they keep it consistent !!!

But just keep in mind that soon we will all have "FREE" healthcare !!!:hide:

what most people don't understand is that the VA is not free. you pay. with either a copay set up according to income or threw 3rd party. sometimes both. the only thing the VA can't bill is medacare. my blue cross has paid just over 20,000 on this last go round I had done and the big bill has not come in yet. the only thing they don't bill for is service connected disabilities. everything els comes with a price tag set by medacare rates. the VA just doesn't get to keep the money it's tossed back in the general fund. that way as a tax payer you can't find out a for sure figure as to what the VA is costing you. you know what there budget is you have no ida what there income is. but the income I have generated for them this past year is staggering.

Your absolutly correct Ed !!

As I mentioned I take my uncle regularly.....and he says the same stuff you mentioned.....most folks do not know how the VA operates..well for that matter most folks dont know how our government operates....

Thats why I said the"free" healthcare that americans will be forced to buy... will be here soon.....

They were sending my insurance company bills for my service connect. When I called my insurance company and told them they weren't suppose to be paying, the lady told me they were going to pay anyway. I said that sounds like insurance fraud, and I was trying to save the company some money. Well now my insurance won't pay the VA anything, they denie everything.
The other thing that really ****es me off is the travel pay, they take $6.00 for a deductiable everytime I go. I drive 100 miles round trip, I end up with about $17.00. Now the thing with the deductable is due to the Graham Rudman act of 83 I think? Its Senator Lindsay Graham passed a bill for the $6.00 to help pay the national debt. I'm sure they don't pay a deductable on their travel pay.
But on with the car, do you have any pictures of the motor, and the working end ? Thanks.

Here's my rant.I believe no government should be allowed to go to war unless they can prove and guarantee that all returning service people and their families will be properly taken care of.AMEN.

every facility handles things in a different manor. the travel I can not figure out either. have a number of pictures of the car here.

we have gotten the valves redone in it and most of the ignition has been redone. the big hold up is taillights. they are rather rare in the 53-54 sedan delivers and station wagons not a lot of ponchos built and they all broke. we are filling the hole with chevy lights right now. hoping that a man in Il can cast us a new set of Pontiac ones. and plugging away between other cars a little at a time. really got the get the floors done and the inspection covers back in place. a lot of heat blowing in there when you drive it.

speaking of valves, I was wondering about my car. When I got it, it has a bottle of LEAD addative. I'm wondering if I need to have the valve seats updated for the UNLEADED gas?
on your tail lights, I seen a comericial on Gears TV, were some chrome company can repair all the differnt types of metal, and plastic, and the pot metal. If I see the add again, I'll get the info.
Your 53 is very similar to my 48, almost like a twin:)

the problem is you have to have some thing to rebuild. I have one taillight the other got wiped out completely by moving the car around with a bucket loader
