Had the 64 Pinner up to the Chevy meet. realised i have never taken it on a shake down cruse. It did will going up pased the plimenary inspection fine and we got a place to park. Had the car judged just to see how it did in there club. It was over 100 deg. air temp. Not to say what it was on the parking lot. glad i didn't judge the event. sitting in the shade with the breeze blowing was a lot nicer. Things broke up around 4:00 and i meet a friend for supper in the motel beanery. One thing after another and it got late going home. Dumped 5 gl of gas in the car and headed out. Made it about 15 miles south when the headlights went out. play with the switch and i could get them back only to have them go out again. Now its around 11 on a dark night and i'm 40 miles from home with nothing, as the car had to be displayed with nothing in it excipt a working fire extinguser on the right floor. Pulled into a truck stop found a pair of wire cutters and something with pig tailes bought them pulled the new light swith out and unpluged it. Chopped off a wire from the pig tail and pushed one end into the powery wire and found a slot that turned the headlights on. High beam but its late so I'll be that sob that won't dim. no taillights or dash lights. But off we go. Guessing how fast i was going by a car in front and behind both about 1/2 mile away. But we are going. Got to about 10 miles from home when the car quit running. Will not restart and of course on the up side of the big hill. If I had made it to the top i could have costed in To the next truck stop, 5 miles from home. Its' now midnight and my phone a friend fell on deaf ears. So start walking. Made it about 5 miles before someone i did not know gave me a ride to the house. Made it in at 1am. Got up eary while it was cool and hooked the trailor up grabed a gas can and went to retrive the car. Checked the gas gage it said 1/4 clamed i had 1/2 when i left Rapid. new tank and sending unit, new headlight switch. Both failed on the trip. Makes you wonder about those replacment parts. Darm shin splints are killing me today. Probly should be walking more. But we had fun.
