The '91 Eagle... called into service

A few days ago I received a rather sad & shocking call from my ex-wife. Her father had just passed away and she asked me to inform our daughter of the sad news.
Lawrence Cain was a good man, he was an old-school hotrod guy to the CORE. He taught me much of what I know building cars and back in the day he & I would turn out two hotrods every spring... one for him and one for me. We'd cruise them for an entire season and sell them at a big rod run in Kalamazoo, Michigan in the fall.
Through my divorce from his daughter he swore it would never affect our friendship and closeness. The man didn't lie and we remained close these 20 years since. He visited a few months ago and loved the Buick-Eagle hearse with it's Torque-Thrust wheels... he said "All it needs is dual exhaust and i'd take my last ride in it!"

Yesterday the Buick-Eagle got her new custom bent duals... and Lawrence gets his wish, he'll ride to the cemetery in my hearse saturday morning

Everyone should get their wishes honored like that. Your a stand up guy Dwayne.

Our condolances to you and the family on the loss of a loved one. You are a good person to be able to give him his last wish exactly has he described it to you.

condolences

Dwayne,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend/father in law.
You all will be in our prayers.
Mike

Dwayne, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and ex-fatherinlaw. At the same time, what a wonderful thing it is to grant someone a final wish. I am sure that you feel honored and proud, eventhough you feel sad too. May he rest in peace.

Way to go bro !!!

Great thing to do for a good guy you will miss big time.

Sad it had to be so soon but I guess they need a good hot rod builder up there.

I liked seeing the car myself in MI a couple months back. Nice ride !

It will be a special day for everyone knowing he had his final ride in a cool Cadillac.

Be proud man,
Darren

Here's a couple photos taken this morning...
First shot is my Eagle hearse behind the Eagle owned by the funeral home. They put it away once I arrived. The pro-street 1941 Willy's behind my hearse was Lawrence's pride & joy, he built it in the early 1990's and his son drove it. The red coupe you can barely see is dad's 1936 Ford opera coupe.
Second photo is Snyder's 2011 Cadillac-Eagle hearse. They said it was the first request they'd ever had to use a family member's hearse. Was very surprised they let me drive unattended and follow the lead car... and it felt good the funeral home workers took lots of pictures of my coach and were fascinated by the extend table! Lawrence's casket and casket spray fit right in.
Thanks for the kind words everyone, it was an honor to be a part of this today.

To think of the insurance/liability and legal issues on this. Can anyone in the industry explain
and shed some light, I would then be interested in lending one of my Flower Cars, or not?

Very nicely done Dwayne. A few nice cars in the picture, for sure. Thanks for sharing what had to have been a very personal and emotional moment for you.

What my understanding about collector car insurance is, you cannot hire the car out to anybody. However, if you do something out of love and kindness for free, then it is my belief you are covered. I am not an insurance expert by any means, however this is my understanding. I could be wrong.

I believe all you need to do is inform your Insurance company your doing it and have someone from the Funeral home with you in the car.

My condolences for your loss. And to be able to carry out his wish......words really escape me.

Very dignified unlike my father in laws interment. His cremains were driven to the cemetary in the trunk of one of the funeral homes cars.

The procession inside the grounds was led by the previously mentioned car. I took second place on my Harley followed by the rest of the attendees. I would have led if I knew exactly where we were going there.

my insurance company said

I asked my insurance company about loaning my hearse for a funeral. They said that since the FH was making money on the funeral there would be a $125 surcharge even though I was not charging anything for my hearse. They also said I could only do this 4 times a year.

in that case...I wouldn't say anything to my Insurance company and just do it....whats the difference if you have someone elses family in your car during a funeral or have the deceased in your car ? I can't see a difference ?
