Thank You Dwayne!

Ron Devies

PCS Ohio Chapter President PCS Past Vice President
Just got home from Dwayne Brooks place where he hosted Ohio Chapter's first outing of the year by sending Rocky off in his new car purchased from Jim Tighe. Jim was there and got to see another one of his former cars as the body shop came through and I was able to take the 64 formerly owned by Jim. :thumb: Dwayne treated us to some awesome steak burgers and dogs. People came from all over Ohio, Indiana, PA, Michigan and even Canada. There were cars there never seen before at a PCS meet. I again forgot my camera but again Sarah remembered hers so maybe if you ask nice she might share. If not I think Mike might of had his.

We also just got home, what an awesome time!!!! Dwayne and his daughter are great hosts, the food was great, and the people just cannot be beat!!! Got to put faces with lots of names, way too many to try and put them all here. I would hate to forget anybody.

For those of you who left earlier than we did, you missed the very best part of all. Jim is a huge railroad buff (as am I). We were sitting there with Rocky and his buddy Tim talking about trains and things. I told Jim that the very best sounding train horn, a Nathan 5 chime, I've ever heard is on the Norfolk Southern Business train which we saw in Bellevue a couple years ago. Jim said he'd never seen that train in person. Not 10 minutes later we hear a train horn on the tracks across the street from Dwaynes. It was the Norfolk Southern Business train (the whole train 4 engines and probably 15 cars) coming in from the east. Jim was like a kid on Christmas morning. The train stopped right past Dwayne's house. Dwayne, Jim, Sarah, Todd, Rocky and his buddy Tim all piled in to Dwaynes 66, and off they went. There are pictures taken when they returned, kinda looked like a big red and white clown car that Ringling Bros. might have in one of their shows.

Thanks to all, we had a blast!!! Barb is looking forward to Hudson later this year.

Russell, ya beat me to it. When the NS train appeared, I shouted "RUSSELL!!!!" and ran toward the tracks in disbelief, as this elusive special train is a real catch. I was trying to decide whether to get in our Lincoln and give chase, when Dwayne said "Wanna go see it?" So 6 of us piled into the old Superior and got to the r.r. junction in Bucy just as the train started up and headed south toward Columbus and eventually Louisville, for the Kentucky Derby. Bystanders along the streets were rubber-necking the "clown car" the whole way. Wonderful. And to top it off, as we were driving toward Galion on Rt 19, I spotted up ahead what appeared to be an old fire truck. As we drew closer, I said to Sharon "it's a Seagrave Canopy Cab Pumper!" ( Russell and I had been talking about such vehicles an hour before!) The truck turned off the road and stopped in a church driveway. I jumped out of the Lincoln and asked the driver "where did you get this Seagrave Canopy Cab!?" "How did you know what it was?," he asked. So I told him. He popped the hood to reveal the purring Pierce-Arrow V-12. I climbed behind the wheel for a moment, then he was off to pick up some kids and take them to prom night. The truck is still lettered for the Bucyrus Fire Dept. and is in great shape.

Am running out of steam here, so all 4 now. Many Thanks to Dwayne and evry1 else for a great time! Have a safe drive home, Rocky. Jim

In all the excitement I forgot to mention the special cake that Sharon designed and had made for this event. Maybe some1 can post a picture of it. It featured the Ohio Chapter PCS logo and several Pro Cars on the icing. Really neat. Thanks agin to all of you for this great day. Jim

The train chase was really an incredible experience. Rolling around the back of a procar with friends on a wild goose chase is really what the PCS is all about. I will post the pics of the meet soon, but first, here is the video of us finally tracking down the train!

Awesome

Thank you Dwayne for an awesome afternoon! It was nice to finally meet you in person. Great food, great weather (well, considering what it's been like lately), and most of all, great company. Got to meet alot of folks that I have seen on here, but not met in person. Jim Tighe is one of the nicest, most knowledge laden guys I have ever met, it was nice chatting with you! Rocky, your new car is very nice, I hope you enjoy your drive home. It was great to spend the afternoon with everyone. I am sure a good time was had by all. Here are some pics from the afternoon:

great day for

Many thanks to Dwayne and his daughter for a wonderful day. Several have already said thank you but there can not be too many for such a great day. We all had a great time. Plenty of cars to see and admire. More than enough good food. A crowd of friendly people. Everything to make for a memorable day. They even arranged for some decent weather in Ohio...another memorable feat.
Mike

And here are some pics! Thanks to Dwayne for hosting this. You are awesome. Thanks to everyone that came out for the meet too. It was great seeing everyone after the long winter. Hope to see you all again soon!!!

I will say that if this is how all PCS meets are then I am DEFINITELY looking forward to many more with everyone. Thank you Dwayne and Caprice for being such awesome hosts. It was awesome getting to put faces with names!

Loren, I'm glad that you had a great time. Too bad we didn't get a chance to chat - hopefully next time. Yes, this is the typical camaraderie of an Ohio Chapter meet. When I've gone to chapter meets hosted by other chapters, it's like this too. Hope to see you at another one soon! Maybe you can make it to Akron on June 18th.

The boys and I had a very nice day. We made it back to Michigan safely (getting 14 mpg). Thank you to Dwayne for hosting today. You have the perfect location for a professional car gathering. Thank you to all who brought your beautiful cars. And thank you to everyone who came. It is always great to see PCS family and meet new people.

Many thanks for a great time, Dwayne. It was great to see everyone, as well as meet some new people. Looking forward to being back in Ohio for the International Meet in July.

THANK YOU everyone for the nice comments, so glad everyone had a good time. It was my pleasure to invite you into my home & shop... you all are the greatest! What a fun-filled day full of surprises. It was great running down that train... in all my years here i'd never seen anything like that special (and elusive) train. Wish everyone could have seen Jim & Russ light up like kids on Christmas morning & run towards the tracks as that shiny train STOPPED right across the street from my house. Running it down & finding the streamlined engines it began to pull away... what a neat thing to watch, amazing.

We had procars lined almost the entire length of the building... what a sight to see. My neighbors are still scratching their heads wondering what the hell was going on. Still in awe of the huge turnout today, everyone got their bellies full and seemed to gave a great day together!

You know, it doesn't matter who you are or what your beliefs are, sometimes you just have to concede that there may be a higher power controlling the days events. First of all, for Jim to even make it today to enjoy the day with us with what he has been going through is a blessing, then for the train they were talking about that nobody EVER sees to come through town and STOP within walking distance! Not to mention the fact that we have had dismal weather here for as long as anyone can remember, yet today it was a beautiful sunny, cool day, then the fire truck on the way home. And forget about the fact that we had something like 12 pro-cars show up to this improptu event, with people travelling down from michigan and Canada. Heck, Rocky FLEW in, although he'll be driving home! Just a great day all around!

After being there several hours I had a moment where I wasn't talking to anyone, so I went up to Dwayne and said "Hey, did Loren Baldwin ever show up? He said he was coming?" At which point Dwayne just points to the guy standing next to him that he was talking to, whom I had also talked to when I first got there. Oops! He had brought his 9 month old dog with him (I'm a sucker for pooches), and I spent a good amount of time making friends with the critter, never properly introducing myself to its owner...

I don't think we could have asked for a better little get-together...After having dinner with Dwayne, Caprice, Rocky and Tim the raindrops started hitting my windshield on the way home, so I guess it's back to that for the forseeable future...

Glad everyone had a great time! And thanks to those that posted pix and videos. I'm jealous, the NS Business train! Procars and trains make for a great mix, for those attending Hudson this summer there is a NS double track main less than a mile from the hotel ( I plan on camping there a bit) as well as the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad which still has some Alcos. This coming weekend the SE Chapter is meeting at the NC Transportation Museum which has a great collection of railroad equipment as well as being next to yet another NS main from DC to Atlanta. Heres a quick vid of one of my favorite "railfan" catches. Jim and Russ should enjoy this parade of vintage EMD stuff!

I see a picture of my Lifeliner on the cake in the set-up when Dave owned it. Look slike you guys had a great time. Can't wait for OHIO Meet.

Jim had stacks of pictures there taken at procar meets in the early to mid nineties. Saw a lot of familiar cars, including your former Criterion with the large "Long Hill" graphics on the sides.

Again, huge thanks to all. I still cannot believe that train video. Amazing, Sarah. For the non-train folks, that NS train is used by the company to wine and dine big shot shippers, politicians, etc. It was on its way to the Kentucky Derby. The 4-unit locomotive set is made up of early-1950's EMD ( GM ) F7's, with two cab units and 2 boosters, all controlled from the lead unit. 6,000 h.p. total from 4 V-16's with 567 cid per cylinder. In the video that Cary sent, all 5 of those old engines are also being run from the cab of that orange lead unit. For train nuts, that is a really bizarre collection of old power from several previous owners. Thank you, Cary.

Here is a question: Can anyone i.d. the builder of the long black limo that Mike Stevens drove? There is no i.d. plate of any kind on that rig. It is a 2000 Cad base car modified by ??? Let the guessing begin. Bye for now. Jim
