Anyone care to go shopping for a new car? The 1962 Chevy is already spoken for...

Neat. Imagine if that was present day, and those same cars were there in that condition, PCS members would descend on that place and clean them out in minutes!

Bet that you didn't notice that they were grouped by car brand... Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile! After I noticed the curtains in the windows of the Chevrolet, and the lights on the roof, This made me think this one might be a ACC conversion...

if you could go down and get one today no one would want one. that's why the prices were so attractive on these cars. that's why so many good cars were scraped for there engines. it was cheaper to buy a old Hearse then rebuild the engine in your caddy. or buy one out of a yard for your hot rod project and who cared about a neat old hearse anyway. grab a couple pieces for the wall art and get rid of it.

I think they are in order by brand first then by year. See the 57 then the 58 Cadillacs then the Pontiacs (I'm not a Pontiac guy but they look like 59 and 60 cars) then the 61 Cadillacs then the 62 Cadillac and Chevrolet.

That is a neat picture. I'd like to take some today money back and buy a few!

That photo is from the Gordon K. Allen dealership in Dallas. Besides being a Superior dealer, they built many station wagon ambulances that were popular in that region. So I'd assume from the era of the photo that the Chevy is a new GKA wagon. :smileTEXAS:

Now:

The first photo below shows how this building, with the carport, looked in January of 2009. Overton Rd. was only two lanes when the 1962 photo was taken.

The second photo, taken by me from the same position as the first one, shows the current lot that was opened in the mid-1970s accross the street. Funeral cars are still sold from this facility:

What fun it would be to go back to 1962 for a few weeks with a camera!

Wasn't Summers there before they closed up? I know in 1991 they had two old EMSA trucks on the show room side of Overton and a lot full of used vehicles on the north side.
