Back when it was a division of Fisher Body and then a separate GM division, there were large Ternstedt plants in many cities including here in Flint that produced hardware items for GM vehicles.
In 1968 it was said there were 400 Ternstedt products on the average GM car such as door handles, window regulators, locks, wheel covers and many of the brightly-plated trim parts found on vehicles. Although the name and logo may not be on every item, many parts on our cars were made by Ternstedt. Next time you see a 1920's or 1930's GM car, look closely at the door handles, window cranks, and windshield wiper control. You may very well see the logo stamped right into them.
For a good history of the Ternstedt Manufacturing Co and how it became part of General Motors look up The GM Heritage Center on Google. Or just log onto Google and type in Ternstedt in the search box. More trivia for the car buffs. A piece of auto history for the history buffs.
