You'll never guess what I found on the streets of Baltimore last night. Yes, our favorite ambulance, the Superior that is not the JFK ambulance. This is the actual car from the Barrett-Jackson auction.
OK, not entirely surprising. I was working on a movie job for an upcoming movie titled "Jackie", starring Natalie Portman. You can guess who this is about. I was using my Studebaker sedan, no ambulances from me. And they were filming a scene of the ambulance carrying JFK's casketed body. The ambulance they rented was non-other than the long-discussed car now owned by Tammy Allen. The picture car person said she rented it directly from Tammy Allen, who's museum in Colorado has now closed.
The car itself looks good, and ran well in the scenes we filmed with it. The beacon was not on it in this photo - they had removed it for shipping due to height (I guess it came east in a container), and I had to help the crew reattach it (they still had trouble getting the dome on, they didn't do it the easy way I told them, but eventually they got it). After fliming, it went back on the flatbed and was hauled away.
But, after all the stuff we did 5 years ago about this ambulance, it's about time I actually got to see it and touch it.
(I didn't get to meet Natalie Portman, aka "Queen Amidala of Naboo", alas. She was there for scenes we filmed earlier in the day, and I actually set next to her in the "hair" trailer, but she was very intently reading while several people worked on her hair, so there was no opportunity to say "hi" or take a selfie.)
