Sometimes the best deals are right under your nose...

...or under my vehicle, as it were...

(No, I didn't find a vintage Cadilllac high-top ambulance in my neighbors barn...)

I've been keeping the feelers out for a good deal on a set of nice, heavy duty whitewall tires for my ambulance for quite some time now. Today, while puttering around the garage cleaning some things up, I noticed something...

I have the "stock" wheels and tires off the ambulance right now, for whatever reason, and I happened to take a close look at one while I was moving it out of the way. A little scrubbing revealed this:

Looks like the previous owner already had a set of whitewalls on there, mounted backwards. It appears that he somehow "blacked out" the whitewalls as well. I say this because there is a well-defined area where they are, and I can reveal them with just a little scrubbing with a scotchbrite pad (no angle grinder work here -- I know all about that trick...)

It's going to take a little work to get them looking nice, but hey, the price is right!

That would be pocket change compared to buying new tires.:071:

That is $2.50 per month.. Includes 4 issues of our award winning magazine, and free advertising in the magazine. It is also a requirement to register to attend a PCS International Meet.

sneak peek

I wanted to surprise people at the M-M meet this weekend, but there is an excellent chance they will look nowhere near this good by the time I get there:

I couldn't scrub away all the black paint or whatever was used on them, so I painted them with acrylic craft paint. Looks good so far and seems reasonably durable. We'll see how it holds up...

And yes, I joined the PCS, although so far all I have to show for it is a $30 debit to my bank account. Shouldn't I at least get an email "Attaboy" or something?

good grief

Todd,
Looks like the 'greif' you were getting paid off. Welcome to the club.
The whitewalls look great! I had a set that were spotted and not coming clean. I took some medium sand paper and a scotchbrite pad to them. They were cleaner than ever.

Now that is what I am talking about, I want to see this awesome car when I get to Piqua (leaving in a couple hours). Looks a lot like Jaimie Boles car right down to the color. This will be at the Ohio International Meet in 2011 right? BTW welcome aboard, did you join the Ohio Chapter?

Todd, you won't regret joining, wait until you get your first issue of the Professional Car magazine.

attaboy!! the secret hand shake will be given to you at your first international meet. don't ask the man in Ohio to give it to you early. we never gave him the right one. your truck is a National right? I just noticed that it has tunnel lights like my 53

Welcome

Welcome Todd!! That is an awesome looking vehicle there, never seen anything like it, very unusual. Hope you enjoy your time in the PCS.
