Siren Manufacturer Settles Lawsuit.

Interesting reading through the comments. It may be just me, but I'm supprised they actually won the lawsuit. Everyone knows sirens are supose to be loud, thats what there for. And everyone knows you use ear protection around loud things, aspecialy when your around them every day.

:poster_oops: Who is going to be passing out the hearing protection at the meet in Ohio? :rofl1: :myopinion:

I usually have my hands over my ears for most of the light and sound show.
This year it will be for all of it ! Maybe even bring some ear plugs along.

Looking forward to the meet in July !

Interesting to read the comments posted in Jeremy's link.

Does sound like a union scam to me.

Not good that any firefighters lost any hearing but Im sure they don't go into a smoke filled building without a tank and mask on.

Sounds like they need to wear hearing protection when riding on the truck on their way to the fire or emergency call.

Not just anyone that uses sirens, but everyone else that is around loud noises when working.

I hope Kevin never runs into anything like this !!!

I have a constant ringing in my ears that the doctor says there is no cure for.
He calls it TINNITUS.
Not sure what over the last 45 years has caused it but Im sure it was loud music or working with loud noises.

Keep it in mind now we have had a little wake up call !
Protect your ears !

I also have a constant ringing in my ears, but I know its from my own stupidity from years of not waring ear plugs while working with air tools, and other loud tools, and going to the drag races. For some reason, I've just recently started using ear plugs when I'm working out in the shop and using loud tools and such. The ringing can get rather anoying sometimes, aspecialy when your trying to go to sleep at night. But like I said, its my own fault.

The last time B&M was sued was 1979. Plaintiff was a Dallas FD Engineer who sued his employer and Seagrave as well. The city, being self-insured, put a tail on the guy and found him playing in a rock band at a club. The investigator produced a dB meter and the sound was 10 decibels louder than the siren at three feet.

He took the settlement offer of $1.00 in exchange for not being prosecuted.

Ludicrously ridiculous

I'm not sure who is the worst here; the lawyers that took the firefighters' "case," or the firefighters that saw a chance for a quick buck.

My favorite comment about the article:

So now the unions are destroying the Fire service just like they did the American auto, construction, shipbuilding, mining, and any other industry that let them in. Sirens have to be LOUD to work. That's why we wear headphones & keep the windows up. It's something we call "common sense".

'nuff said...

Josh, can you type louder I can't hear what your saying! Hehehe!

Maybe I need to NOT install the "Q" on my ambulance. Only in FREAKING America!! What's next, they're going to sue because they got smoke inhalation or perhaps burned their hands.

Come on!

Believe it or not any Emergency vehicle Built up until a few yrs ago Had the Speakers and or Coaster Siren usually Mounted on the Roof.My Department has had Several People Take Medical Retirements due to Hearing Loss
They had a fleet manager who kept Insisting on putting the Speaker(s) in the Lightbar. Until they fired him.

I've got some slight hearing deficit in my left ear from driving trucks with one of the Grover Stuttertone air horns mounted right above the left door, the other on mounted above the right door.

The headset I wore only had a right earpiece for the driver. Theory was he needed to hear anything else running in traffic to avoid collisions. I've NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED suing anybody. I'm a big boy, I just live with it.

When Barb is felling kinda bitchy, I just keep her on my left side....works out real well.

There is so many people where I work that do not where earplugs, even though it is required and you can get written up. They always say they cannot hear anything with them in, but they are the same people you have to repeat yourself to or yell so they can hear you. I always wear mine and can hear better with them in than without, Ive took them out once just to see. All I heard is racket, with them in I could hear anything you need to, even if you drop your pen. It only takes a few seconds to protect yourself from permanent damage.
As for suing someone for something like that I never would have thought of it, we are way to sue happy in our country. Next we will be getting sued because driving our cars caused someone emotional distress.:pat:

Russell: Reminds me of watching Kevin O'Connell's video-story done by one of the Major LA TV Stations (as I recall) of the (original) Grover Air Horn and B&M Siren Manufacturing Facilities being located side by side for years..... very funny! MM
