September 17-19, 2010 2nd Annual PCS Volunteer Chapter Meet at Berea, Kentucky

Lonnie and Geraldine Reppert along with Rick and Tricia Cox of Reppert Funeral Home will be hosting our 2nd Annual Fall Meet in Berea, Kentucky from Saturday, September 18th through Sunday, September 19th 2010.

On Saturday we start the day out early with breakfast on your own and meeting at Reppert Funeral Home (110 North Broadway, Berea) at 9 am. We will drive a short distance to take in tours of the famous Fort Boonesborough ($8 adults/$5 children) and Oldham/Roberts/Powell Funeral Home (horse drawn hearse), then back to Berea to participate in the Spoonbread Festival Parade (run those lights and sirens!!!). After the parade we will meet back at Reppert F.H. for a very nice catered meal. The evening is free to explore the many artisan and antique shoppes in Berea or to attend the 14th Annual Spoonbread Festival also going on this weekend just a short walk from the Funeral Home. There will be hot air balloon rides, over a hundred vendor booths and live band entertainment that evening.

For those that stick around on Sunday, the Spoonbread Festival Car Show invites our attendees back. Registration Cost is $15 and you may come back with a Top 50 Trophy like LeeAnn did last year!! Rick will make sure you get a Car Show T-Shirt and Goody Bag for registering as well.

For those staying overnight (either Friday or Saturday, some folks will be arriving on Friday evening) -- the Chamber of Commerce has advised our members to tell the hotels to give them the Spoonbread Festival Exhibitor rate because we will be in their parade and car show. Our designated meet hotel is Fairfield Inn & Suites 859/985-8191 (Room Rate quoted was $55.00 per night).

(Note: Please RSVP to Rick at rickstevecox@yahoo.com or call him at 859/986-3165 by September 6 if you think you may be attending so he can get a halfway accurate number to the catering people--Thanks!!)

Update from Rick Cox!

Additional Information for Saturday morning:

For those that have always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon (especially LeeAnn)...weather permitting--tethered rides will be given that Saturday morning only from 7:30 am until 9:30 am (if you get there early you will not have any problems getting to go up). We are still planning on meeting at the Funeral Home at 9 am for the trek to Fort Boonesborough.

The Spoonbread Parade was a HUGE hit last year as we started out with our F.H. Lead Car then ran the vehicles in chronological order with year plaques so the public could see the change in body styles through the years. Here it is a year later and we still have visitors to our visitations/services that mention how educational and interesting that was!!

The meal that Saturday evening will be catered by Sonny's BBQ--it is going to be excellent!!! If you have not RSVP me yet, please do so by tomorrow so I know how much to order.

For those arriving Friday evening--please call the Funeral Home at 859/986-3165 and we will meet you at the hotel and then go to the Berea Cracker Barrel for supper.

Goody bags are planned as well (participants will get some really nice stuff).

Drive careful and see you here!
Rick

Spoonbread

Hello Everyone. We are very excited about the Second Annual PCS Volunteer Chapter Meet here in Berea. For those you you arriving on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, drop by the funeral home or give us a call so we can coordinate plans to meet at the local Cracker Barrell Restaurant for a time of food and fellowship.

Times and locations of Saturday and Sunday activities will be available whether you arrive Friday or Saturday. Be sure to plan your Saturday activities around arriving back at the funeral home for a catered meal of Sonny's BBQ pulled pork, bar-b-q beans, potato salad, macroni & cheese, and homemade desserts.

For those of you who don't know, Spoonbread is moist cornmeal-based dish cooked in a crock bowl, close in consistency and taste to an actual pudding. The technique of making spoon bread makes it what some people call "cornmeal souffle." And to be honest, other people call it "undercooked cornbread." Never the less, it is delicious whichever you call it. Piping hot from the oven slathered with butter (and honey) ...... UMMMM UMMMM GOOD!

Be careful traveling. Call me or Rick or drop by when you arrive.
