This is a video of a 1960' Mercury Cougar with a badly rusted roof, however, the principles apply to any vehicle. The bigger the roof, the more work involved. If anyone wants to practice, I have a Corvair Van that needs a new roof panel. As Bob Barker used to say... "come on down"........

like I have said there are as many ways to make the repair as there are body men. most of what I see here is a wast of time. the end results look good but as he did not use a weld threw primer all he has is a ring of bare metal all around the top. the time and effort cutting the spot weld outs then redoing them verse a hack saw threw the pillars is wasted. the bs about not melting the lead out but grinding it is just that. you generate more heat in a localized spot grinding on it. he ground down the whole in side of the used top. spent more time papering off the bow es then it would have taken to just gab a brush and dab some paint on the inside of the never painted from the factory top frame. there are a number of products that could have been use that would not require all that grinding. which never gets between the layers any way were the rust starts and structure strength is lost. the only reason ford assembled in this manner is because they had to. all that had to start out with is a whole lot of loose stamped pieces of steel. I have done a number of them when new with a gas welder to go back on and a air hammer to take off. but never with a used top. did learn that if you used brass to put the pillars together when you get the jeep stuck and catch the engine on fire it melts the brass out and the top falls off. better to use steel rod. that way it's easier to tow back in. find a spot to mark it run a line of tape around and cut both of them on the line. put the new top in place clamp it and slam the door. if they fit check the glass opening if its good tack it in place and recheck. then weld it up finish the four spots off like any other repair and paint the roof. three days max, next.
