rear speakers

I have been wondering this for a while. I know some hearses were radio delete. My hearse has the factory radio, that is one thing I really wanted. My hearse has 6x9 speakers above the partition. They are factory, they are cover with the same fabric as the headliner. I have never seen another hearse or ambulance with factory rear speakers. I love where they are because there is nothing to obstruct the sound. Does anybody ever seen a pro-car with speaker like mine or any for that matter? Just wondering. I don't have any pictures, I should take some.

I would also like to see pictures. to see where they are mounted exactly. I am looking for believable factory mounting locations in our coach.

I have never seen factory-original speakers mounted as you describe. It sounds to me as if someone took their time and did a very tasteful speaker installation. I, too, love having good-sounding music in my cars, and it's always a struggle to achieve that without damaging the coach. In my '76 Victoria I mounted 6x9 speakers, in enclosures, high up in the partition, but didn't cut big holes IN the partition. I drilled a total of 8 holes through the wood (and fabric) above the glass, and bolted metal angles to the partition. Then I lay the speakers across the angles, facing downward, and used small screws to hold the speakers into place. It pained me to drill through the partition, but unless you're looking upward toward the top of the partition, you never even notice they're there.

I took this car to CLC Kansas City last year, and utilizing these as rear speakers, and the original two Cadillac speakers as fronts, cruised with a great sounding system. The source for the CD & radio is actually a Pioneer unit with remote control that sits on the hump on the floor. Some years ago I stumbled upon a set of brackets, no doubt intended only for a CB radio, that would allow the CB to sit on the hump on the floor. I mounted the CD/radio unit on these brackets, and fabricated another set of metal angles that allowed me to mount my CB radio above, just in case I needed it. A couple quick plug connectors to the rear allows me to move the whole thing from car to car. All the speakers just stay with the car. When I get time I'll photograph how this looks. Tom

I wanted better sound in my '70, but I wanted to keep the look absolutely stock. In its original form, the car had an AM radio with a single mono speaker in the dash. The speaker was long gone, and the radio was dodgy. (and I don't mean in a Mopar kind of way...) After a lot of searching, what I wound up doing was installing a 1970 Cadillac stereo - the top of the line (for 1970) AM/FM stereo seek radio. I don't remember the source, but I ordered a stereo speaker that had the same mounting as the factory mono... trouble is, it was much deeper, and the dash wouldn't mount. I bought a stereo dash pad (damn those things are expensive) and installed that. The trouble was finding speakers. Again, just about everything out there is too deep. I found a pair of 3 1/2" infinity speakers that had the slimmest dimensions of anything else on the market, but even those are just a hair too thick - the dash pad sits slightly higher and won't completely seat. For now, I'm holding off on doing anything further until I can get my windshield to stop leaking.

we are in the process of filling back in a set of them in this 63. what I can't under stand is what is wrong with a nice set of boxed speakes set on the floor behind the seat??? set of rca pluges and you can have them in and out in seconts there is not a thing else back there but the spair tire. watched Zack spend about 2 hr hooking up direct to the battery a massice system with the speakers in a box set up held in with the pins in back. then he slid the glass in on both sides so he could have tunes on the ride home. but he did not have to cut any holes. the linnen cabnet covered with the headliner would be one other spot that would get them in your ear but out of site. wire them to the springs under the seat and you could feel the music. but realistickly a set of rear deck speakers put under the dash on eather side would work easily. be out of the way and out of site.

Here is a link to my photobucket. The speakers are not easy to take a picture of. My speaker are not noticeable, at all. As you can see in the pictures, I replaced the speaker. I wanted to use the original grills, but can't with the speaker I have.
