yes and no. some were wired that way some were not. me I always did them that way. took me some time to figure out what superior did on the 63. they wired the load lights threw the tail lights threw a jam switch. then they wired it again threw a jam switch to the back up lights. spent a lot of time scratching my head on that one. but what the did was wire it so that when you opened the door if the car was in reverse then lights went out. close the door they came on. as long as the key was on and the shifter was in reverse they worked that way. then the other time they came on was if you had the lights on and the door was open, on they came. if the tail lights we lite and the car was in reverse the were on all the time load door open or closed. drove me nuts. so i wire them to come on when you opened the door and when you put it in reverse. right or wrong both Brendon and I felt it worked best that way. I never thought about door open at a car show till later. then I remember batteries off they don't light up anyway.
thats all you need to do. then the back ups will come on when you open the loading door also as they are now conected. this is how most hearses were wired as they don't have load lights.
