Rear floor storage compartment

Replaced the hinge on the door as well as all of the screws that held the door trim in place.

On the to do list is sandblast and repaint the box and seam seal it as well.

It looks like either Superior forgot to place the support that hold the door open or they did not install it as part of this model. Anyone with a late model Superior, do you have the metal rod that is used to keep the door open?

My 1976 Superior Cadillac (not 54XL) does not have a rod to hold open the trap door. I store the stair chair down there and the normal event sequence would be to bring the patient down the stairs in the stair chair, transfer to the stretcher, replace the stair chair in the box, and finally load the paiient
 
Those are the little things that make these cars interesting. Some have that rod, and some do not. When the car was in service this simple inexpensive rod would have made the crew's life easier as they would not have to hold the door with one hand while taking the equipment in and out of the box with the other.

There is always the option to just flip the lid open all the way, but then you almost have to climb in to grab the end of it in order to close it.
