Railfanning while in and near Hudson

Any other railfans gonna be in Hudson for the meet? I plan on splitting my time between Berea, the NS double track main (which runs close to the host hotel) and the meet.

Interesting you should post a photo of the 4610 (the only locomotive in the NS fleet painted in those colors). My sons used to work out at a grocery store where the Ft. Wayne mainline crosses SR 18 here in town. Very common to see trains "holding" just west of the crossing waiting to get in to the yard.

Rob called one afternoon telling me the 4610 is on the lead and holding by Hogues Market. Since I have a model of that locomotive, I grabbed it, and off I went. Got out there, took a photo of the model setting on the deck of the real one and got ready to leave. Well here comes the crew asking what's going on. I told them. The engineer then opined as how "....these green locomotives are a mixed bunch, some of them run real good, others ain't worth a damn....".

OK, whatever, no point in arguing with the guy, just chuckled to myself and left.

Russell,
Catching 4610 ( as a lead unit) was a high point for me. We had terrible storms a few weeks ago and I lost power for 2 days so I ran to a nearby bisquit place for coffee and WIFI. Through a tip from a friend via email I heard it was in Asheville, NC then appeared on the Murphy Branch heading BACK to Asheville. I tempted fate and ran a few towns over....no luck....backtracking along the tracks I caught it leaving Waynesville NC. Chasing north I caught it switching 1/2 mile south of me and patiently waited to get the above pic and video. The next day I heard NS's local coming into my town ( which I hear from the house, I am at the end of NS's Murphy Branch) so I ran down to see if I would be lucky enough to catch 4610 yet again. BINGO! I waited for it to pull closer but the skies opened up and it POURED.......and poured and poured rain. The 4610 being a "one off" locomotive is harder to shoot the the "Officers" train. Glad you caught it as well!

Never saw no low-nose Geeps back in the real SR days - and with the short-hood first? And Green? Only the passenger power was green.

Since we're not riding the train at Cuyahoga Valley, I'd be up for a little railfanning.

Here in the Bellevue area, it's actually pretty common to see one of the older SD40-2's running long hood first (that being the dedicated "front" of the unit) on the point of one of the "lesser" trains. The newer engineers pitch a fit when assigned one, but soon get over it.

I haven't seen the 4610 around here since the first time and that was back in 2000 or so. I wasn't even sure if they had it anymore, a lot of that older 4 axle stuff has been replaced.

Steve, it's only 75 miles or so up the Ohio Turnpike (actually 70 on the OTP, then 5 south on SR4 to the yard) to Bellevue, LOTS of railfanning around here.

I have just learned that the host hotel of the Hudson Meet has redecorated their main restaurant with a train theme! See how your committee has gone out of their way to please you folks. The lounge/bar is still in keeping with the automotive decor. Enjoy!:smileflag::specool:
