Quiz: Auto body ID pt.2

I was at a continuing ed. meeting earlier this week down at Amelia Island, FL and was very pleased to see a beautiful old Cadillac someone had driven. I'm pretty sure they were attending the same meeting from the stickers on the car, but never found out who the owner was. Anyway, can anyone identify the year and model that goes along with this beautiful Cadillac crest?

Hmmm, noticeably fewer respondants than the first quiz on the 2010 Camaro part! Paul-BZZZZT! You're close, but not quite there. I'll wait a bit longer before revealing the photos of the rest of the mystery car!

Mystery car revealed...I thought this was a 1947, but after consulting Walt McCall's 80 Years of Cadillac & LaSalle, it is a 1946 Series 62 sedan. I learned something! The rubber stone shield on the leading end of the rear fenders, V emblems on hood and trunk, block letters on the front fenders, and six (horizontal) bar grille identify the model year. A 5 bar grille, script front fender lettering, winged trunk emblem, and stainless stone shields appeared on 1947 models. John Royark got it right! From the license and decals on the windows, the car is from the Charleston, SC area. I thought it was great someone would drive over 200 miles in this beauty! 14,900 of this model were produced in the '46 model year, compared with 25,834 1947s.

i hope the person driving it has a handicapped parking placard since they are clearly parked in a handicapped zone. I think the car would look better also if it had whitewalls!

Rest assured Rick, there was a handicapped permit hanging from the mirror. Materials were still quite scarce following WWII, so whitewalls were pretty rare during that time. Perhaps the owner wanted to keep it looking like 1946 by putting blackwalls on it.
