PCS member benefits

What (if any) additional sections are there on this forum board which are hidden or only accessible to paid PCS members or site supporters?

Thanks!

I don't think there's anything here that's a secret:

These are the forums PCS members have access to. Site supporters that are not PCS members would not have access to the forums marked "PCS only".

I was just curious

Thank you for the wonderful post with screen shots. It’s greatly appreciated and although not really anything “secret” as you say, it is still unknown to those who are not actual members of the PCS and have that access that the PCS members do.

I can understand non-PCS members not really needing (or probably having interest) in participating in the PCS member discussion forums section about past and current events, bylaws, and other such PCS business but I find it perplexing that the off-topic section is also only reserved for PCS members or site supporters.

I would personally think that the subsections within the “off-topic” section (as listed) would be beneficial to anyone visiting or posting information on the open board as a registered member even if not a PCS member or site supporters.

Slightly off topic, fire engines, police cars, van style ambulances, trains, and web-site suggestions.

Just the other day I posted an image inside a medical train in a thread and even mentioned in that thread, that such a “train” image was slightly off topic and was totally unaware of the fact there is a subsection for trains until I was told. Of course not being a PCS member or site supporters prevented me from seeing that section or subsection or even knowing it existed.

I’m not trying to knock it or take a pot shot but I just don’t understand the “train” section being a reserved privilege for only PCS members or site supporters. That’s confusing to me, but the larger picture I see from preventing general forum users access to those off topic sections is the fact maybe several posts then end up in incorrect sections with restricted access. That in return I would think causes issues and additional work for the moderators moving posts and threads.

Then the other day I also posted a thread in general discussion and it was moved to a proper section of the board which unfortunately I didn’t have access to and therefore I wasn’t able to respond to a thread I had in fact created. It was later moved back to the general discussion section after it was brought to the attention of the staff.

So with the points I am making here, the argument could also be made that these are “Web-Site suggestions, but again since I don’t have access to that portion of the forum board or section then I cannot post my thoughts there in the proper thread. Therefore the section on “Web site suggestions” also gets missed by those who are not members of the PCS or site supporters but who regularly participate on the forum.

I simply ask my original question of what sections there were not to cause any problems but to get clarification since I myself have had two recent incidents that have caused me to ask what sections I am not seeing.

There will be others who will then chime in and tell me then it’s time I step up and become a PCS member and that my dues in part help support this great site. I can understand that argument to a point however I am under the belief that any website is "made" by the people who participate and contribute content, information and images. Therefore I feel I am doing my small part in supporting this site with my contributions, albeit limited contributions.

Where I see the benefits of joining the PCS are valid would be for any professional car owner who was interested in attending PCS car meets, having their car judged, PCS meetings, getting official PCS stickers, and other PCS gear and goodies.

The newsletter is also often touted as also being well worth the membership fees alone, however I am the rare exception as mail service where I am is problematic and unreliable, so lost mail is more the “norm” than the exception if you get the mail at all. Some guy a few miles down the road would be enjoying the newsletters while I was questioning the Postmaster as to where the heck my mail was.

Since I do not own a professional car or attend PCS meets that shouldn’t disqualify me (or anyone) from having a pro-car interest or participating on this forum in its fullest capacity (which for the most part it doesn’t or hasn't) other that the PCS section which goes without saying.

Again thank you for the great response, it’s much appreciated and I hope my post is just food for thought!

I have a hard time believing that the United States Postal Service in Dallas Texas is that bad.

James, there are many PCS members that do not own a professional car, never will, and have no interest in even attending an event. They just have interest in these cars and join to get the magazine. So just because you don't own a pro car don't mean you should not join. The magazine alone is well worth the price if you have an interest in these cars.
As for the trains, police car, fire truck forums, they are only for members/supporters because they are not considered pro cars so no need to add confusion to someone new that thinks they are. I for one (and some others), have no idea why we have those forums at all, especially the train forum as this is the Professional Car Society not the trainfan club.
Joining the PCS is a good thing, you will not be disappointed.

I have a hard time believing that the United States Postal Service in Dallas Texas is that bad.

Me either  but nice pot-shot!

But hey since you're so interested in the postal service itself and not the actual main content of my message here is a link for you reading pleasure.

Postal Service Debt to Hit $45 Billion

The U.S. Postal Service, which lost $1.3 billion in its first quarter, said its debt could reach $45 billion by around 2017 if Congress doesn’t pass legislation allowing it to change its business model.

James, the deal is, you get what you pay for. I don't mean that in a mean-spirited way, I mean it in a realistic way.

Those who don't actually participate, who only "visit", get to see the basic information. This information is made available to all so that visitors and new folks can learn a little bit about the PCS and professional cars. But it's just the basics.

Folks who have a bit more interest can become site supporters. They help make the site what it is (since the only funding for the site is from site supporter payments). For a small annual fee, they get access to more information and more participation, including the off-topic forums.

Folks who are really interested can actually join the Professional Car Society car club. You don't have to own a professional car, or have a desire to attend a meet (though besides financial or schedule issues, I can't see any other reason why someone wouldn't want to attend a meet). You get the magazine, which as stated, is worth far more than the price you pay. You also get to participate in the club activities as a voting member. And you get access to the PCS-member-specific forums here. Membership has it's benefits.

There is also a forum for the PCS Board of Directors members that general members don't see.

The more you do (or, as in most things, the more you pay), the more you get. You get better food in "first class" on the plane than you do in "coach". Simple economic reality.

(By the way, if you truly have problems with the US Postal Service, complain. My mail was generally about 3 weeks later than everyone else's. I complained. Others in my area complained. Eventually, after enough complaints and newspaper involvement, all of a sudden, our region's mail service improved dramatically.)

pay to play

not trying to be rude or anything but why don't you just become a member and then you can say or view what you like. if you cant afford the 35 bucks just say so and we will take up a collection for ya. everybody wants everything for nothing especially if someone else is footing the bill. id rather spend the money than read all the reasons for not getting for free what the rest of us pay for. nothing personnel but you have to pay to play. you want what someone else pays for and that's not the way OUR club works. start your own web site and then form a club and then advertise for membership and then you won't have to pay this club (society). just saying there ....

then of course there is the confusion with ownership of this site. the PCS as a club does not own the site or contribute to the operation of this site. the PCS only sanitation this site as it's official site for passing information and directors, board members to get together and club announcements, storage of forms for members to access and the like. this site is solely kept afloat by the site supporters using it. the incentive to become a site supporter is to have expanded privileges on the site. the reason the other non pro cars forms are available for site supporters is because like any other addict most of us are ploy-substance abusers. those of us that only wish to OD on one thing can ask not to be subject to other temptations. we keep the open forums pro car related so not to show the underside to none members. you can be a site supporter and have expanded privileges on the site with out being a member of the PCS. then like you have stated there is really no reason to access those parts of the web site. hope that helps you decide. you are welcome here no matter what your status is.

I skipped over a few posts when writing this note.....

My recommendations are... join the PCS !!!!!
Become a site supporter !!!!!

If you are here now, you will be here more once you get to become a member of both.

I have been a proud member for over 20 years and it has changed my life !

Yes, the site should have a "Why become a member" and "What benefits you get as a member" sections. Hopefully they get added soon.

I personally don't know why you would be here WITHOUT joining !!!

Just take the plunge and I bet you say to yourself after... I should have done that as soon as I found out about this wonderful club and forums !

At least, ask for a sample copy of the PCS magazine so you can see what you are missing. The Prez would do that for you.

Darren

There is no reason to keep this discussion going any further, and it is the decision of the Website Administration Committee to close this thread, since his original question has been answered.
