Our '64 Superior Pontiac was in a museum. Well, for one night anyway.
We were invited by the Cetronia Ambulance Corps of Allentown, PA, to attend their "Health on Wheels" event on 4/28/11, to celebrate donors for new Lifepak 15 monitors - they wanted some antique ambulances on display. The dinner was held at the "America on Wheels" car museum in Allentown, where our ambulance was displayed in the lobby of the museum for the evening.
They also invited Paul Vickery to bring his '56 Miller, but it had starter problems as he was on his way there and he had to have it towed home. And they invited local Mahoning Valley Ambulance to bring their '72 M-M Lifeliner, but it, too, broke down on the way!
While there, they had a presentation including a video of their service since it started in 1955. Their first unit was a '48 Flxible Buick ambulance, purchased used. They also mentioned, several times, their "Mobile Emergency Room", a '73 (?) Grumman van/squad type unit which held three stretchers. That plan never worked out well, as it was a large vehicle and couldn't negotiate some of the small streets in Allentown. (Side note, Dad and I looked at buying their MER when it was for sale in the late '80's.) They even had some of the founders of their corps there, including a man named Alan who was '93 years old - makes Dad look like a kid!
I think our '64 looks nice in the museum. It's back home now in our garage.
