On her way

My 51" Superior ambulance has been SOLD to a new owner (PCS member).

She started out her "career" in Napa Ca with Piner Ambulance Service.:)

Sad to see her go as she was my next project, but I know she will be well taken care of and pampered.

I will let the new owner announce his plans for the rig when he is ready.

It has always amazed me that so many Superior 51" ambulances were built at a time when 54" ambulances were available. Could there have been that big of a difference in cost between building a 51" vs. building a 54"? It seems like you see far more 51" ambulances than you do 54" ambulances up through 1973.

Total built

TOTAL 1970 Superiors built was 367.....Superior book does not break it down to 42"/51"/54'.

Base price for 51" Rescuer....... $14,727.00

Base price for 54" ..........$14,769.00

Base price for 42"...........$13,672.00

For a difference of $42.00 between the 51" and the 54", I would have gone with the 54"

1970 51" Piners New Home

Hello all attached are a few photos of my new ambulance in her new home. I'm so excited she is finally here.

I have a few things I need for the car but most importantly I need an Alternator & Column with Ignition.

Will post a better list of needs later.

Plan of attack is as follows.

1. Get her running

2. Body and Paint

3. Interior

4. Lights and Sirens (Saved the best for last..... Helps that I own an emergency vehicle shop)

Congratulations John! Since you need a new column, this would be the perfect opportunity to replace it with a tilt wheel column! Looks like you are starting with a very solid rig!

it does look to be a worthy project. is the column missing? I can get you one. but finding a good wheel is almost impossible. but if your shipp a large idam like that the hound is the way to go.

Congratulations on the purchase John, should make a beautiful restoration when finished. I may be needing some of EVI's services for my recent '71 Stoner/GMC ambulance purchase.

Really liked your '84 Ford ex-Columbia FD shop rig seen at the '14 Ripon show.

Tilt columns are relatively easy to find for a '70 Cad! Now's the time to do it and you will enjoy driving it that much more.
