Not really a pro car question but I need help

Okay so I have a 1970 Ford F100 Series Ranger and the tailgate rods came off but there is a whole piece of trim that covers the whole tailgate and I wondering if someone here would know how to get the trim off without bending it or breaking it. Any answers will help. Thanks in advance!

if I remember right that trim is put on with a set of 1/4 20 pan head Phillips screws from the back side. should be about 8 of them.they went into a j nut on the back of the molding and would rust in place. the trim is kind of heavy easily damaged and expensive. just one more of those better idas

I looked and I cannot find any bolts on the back except for two that hold the tailgate handle on. I looked under one of the corners and there are these huge holders and I have no clue what to do now?

Speaking as a big F100 guy, and a F100 owner, I know if your talking about the piece with the stamped Ford lettering, Ed is right, at least on the 73-79's. Its ben over a year sence I've owned a 67-72, so I cant remember for sure if they are the same or not.

put a big flat bar beside the holder and twist. if there are not screw heads it's a pop on one. uses welded on studs to hold the plastic retainer that hold the molding. start on one edge top or bottom but try the top first. some had tension springs on one side. then don't pry but twist the flat bar and it popes off. you may brake the clip you might not. that's the excitement of it all.
