shuffling around the spare tires out of these cars just happened to stand them side by side . not all 890x15 tires are created equal. the 235x15 are no match for OEM. wow

probably not. the tall one came out from the hole in Virgules 58 it still has the casing marks about half worn off. I would guess it's a narrower rim by at least a inch.but that would not account for it being 2 inches taller. the other is the spare out of Paul's 69 it has just enough wear on it that the casting marks are gone. the Kelly 235s are new.

the big difference is the manufacture of the tire. the wide white is a US Royal. I would bet coffee on it's being the original spare on the 58. the other one is a Uniroyal. so different manufacture. different size tire.

just to compare them I rolled the Uniroyal tire agents my 700x15 Hercules on the jeep. they are the same size tire

and here is a pictures of the difference in the roll out of the Uniroyal 890 and a Goodyear 235. it shows for each revolution of the tire the 890 rolls 4.5 inchs farther

the difference in the stance of Rons Sevill and mine are night and day. the short fat look is one we are more use to so it dosen't look un natural to us. I would love to find a set of the dule stripe white walls to put back on the 72.

Original

I would like to find some original tires for my '66 Superior Caddy - as well as a few other cars - now that I'm trying to trailer them long distances.

ask anyone with 235 on there car and they will tell you 5 mph fast. you need to go to the next bigger gear in the transmission to slow up the spedometer

Mounted-unmounted

You can't compare an unmounted tire that has been stored on it's side to one that has been stored upright or with one that is mounted and inflated.

My 77 M-M came with the N78-15's when new. It now that the 235R15's and the speedo is pretty accurate till about 55 mph. But when the speedo reads 65 mph its actually doing 75 mph.

very true very true these sets of tires are all mounted and inflated to proper pressure. in the diagram I have shown on the ground, here is the 235 the 700 and the 890 I used to compare. the 235 is a 29 inch diameter tire the 700 is a 30 and the 890 is a 32 . the 235 came off the rear or my 72 CB the 890 was stored up right behind the seat of it and the 700 came off my red jeep.

as for the N78x15 a 225x15 would be a equal match the 235 is a bigger tire.
my 89 Collins had the 225's on it to carry the weight. Collins upped the pressure to 44 psi. bigger tire the car goes faster then the spedometer. smaller tires the car goes slower then the reading
